bo-n-aroSure you can! Look at "taxidermy.net" and go to the supplier page. You can find several suppliers that will sell tanning kits.
Now, then...... for $40, let him do it!!! Unless you dont have anything to do its well worth the trouble.
Bo-n-aro is correct! Tanning done properly is a lot of work - and a beginner's first couple of attempts usually fail until they get the hang of it.
Plus, the cost of the tanning kit will probably run around $25.00 plus shipping. For the savings of $10.00 or so I would definitely let the taxidermist do it!

Frans DiepstratenSkinned a gopher this spring...made a whole lot of nicks into that paperbark skin...just threw it in salt, lot's of it...it's still there...I guess that since it's so thin you really get all the water out.
I once did a rabbit skin with cleaning alcohol. Scrape and clean, soak in water to get the blood out, soak in alcohol, rinse in water, soak again...and then stretch, stretch, stretch while it dries....I forgot the last bit, it came out pretty hardish.
Better leave it to the pros if you value that skin.
