Skull mount ?
I shot a cull buck last year and decided to try my hand at a skull Mount. Instead of boiling I let nature help just by hanging it from a tree then finally submerged it in a drum of water for a couple of weeks (I know this may not be the preferred method but at the time I was busy). I removed it from the drum of water and with a little rinsing the skull was very clean. The problem with my technique is that it has caused the antlers to whiten. They are not 100% white as they still have the dark crevices close to the base so I was wondering if I painted the antlers with a shade of brown would it produce desirable results? Your input will be appreciated! Thanks, Kelly

I would not recommend painting them. Use a light to medium colored wood stain. Use some light colored first and then go to a little darker until you like what you see.

For some reason painting didnt sound like a good idea but I didnt even consider staining! Thanks!

What would you recommend on the skull? It bleached out pretty good but has a yellowish tint. Thanks, KP

40 Volume Hydrogen Peroxyde mixed 50/50 with water and soak for 8-10 hours, then let dry in the sun. Dont submerge antler pedicals, as they will whiten even more. Stain after you whiten.

Also, take a look at some of the other posts on the subject...I think we discussed this last week as well. There is some helpful info in the other threads
