Alberta Black Bear Hunt Report
Our group just got back from a black bear hunt up in northern Alberta, Canada. We hunted about 60 km west of High Level with Alberta Bear Busters. Our camp was right on the Chinchaga River which was one big ice flow when we arrived. Seven hunters took 10 bears. I got to see my first, and probably last, wolverine in the field. I also had two pine martins come in during the week.

I hunted with my 7mm-08 using 140 gr. TSX's. My bear piled up in less than 15 yards.

Here are some photos.

Bob, That looks like an excellent adventure.

Was the entire group from Texas?

If it was that camp will never be the same. Looks like your group did the lower 48 proud. Cu does to you.

Bob:

Great pictures!`This old man used to hunt blacks in Ontario (Nipissing District) and always wanted to see the further Western provinces. The biggest black I ever shot was about 315 (on camp scales - and after field dressing) I always went back, year after year to Canada for black bear hunting. The whole idea of the country and the atmosphere in sitting out for a black was like a drug for me. Thanks again for the pictures. THey brought back fond memories to this retired black bear hunter!

Nice going, Bob!

Thanks for sharing the adventure with the rest of us. I thoroughly enjoyed the photos. thumb

It sounds like that 140 grain TSX did quite the number on your bruin. Now, how about some of the details of the shot: range, placement, terminal performance, etc.?

Alberta Bear Busters used to be Wolf Creek Outfitters place. Lots of big bears up there. I spoke with them about going this year but booked for BC instead. We leave next Sunday.

Great pictures and congratulations.

Congrats, Bob.
Looks like a great time was had by all. Thanks for posting pix of your hunt. I'm sure you'll treasure the memories of this trip for quite a spell. Did you bring back the cape from your bear, and are you going to have it tanned?

Excellent Job,
I leave in 3 weeks for Northern Saskatchewan to hunt with Northern Echo Lodge. Was supposed to go this coming week but Outfitter Postponed us for 2 weeks as the lake was still froze and bears weren't moving yet. There are 7 of us going up from Montana Hope we have as much fun and luck as you did. Congrats Again

Thanks guys!

HR-Yep, all Texans!

GW-We broght back the salted capes and skulls in duffle bags we took with us for that purpose. Four of our bears went to Bob Wilkins at Wildlife Artistry Taxidermy in Cameron, Texas for a combination of rugs and full body mounts.

Good luck to the rest of y'all on the upcoming hunts!!!!

I think you ment the Chinchaga River. Were you with Bob Freeland of Chinchaga River Hunts? Good guy.

A buddy of mine use to guide moose for him.

Glad to see success for an ealry hunt in May with it being cold and snowing last week in the Peace country. My bro-in law has hunters up from Maine right now. Was a bit nervous as bears hit the baits only starting last monday and the hunters arrived friday. So far they got 3 bears and missed a big wolf.

Good luck on future hunts in Alberta.
