Here we have coyotexwolf things which tend to get your attention at about 90 lbs !

We used to have mtn lions as there are place names like Panther Brook close by.Sightings indicate possible passers through. And things that go BUMP in the night !!

I understood instantly that it was sarcasm.

Thing is, some folks tend to forget that not EVERYONE hunts/fishes or really has any knowledge of nature/the outdoors and predators.

Lots of city folks move out to the suburbs/country happy to be somewhere where they can let Phideaux and Puss out to roam.

Then the next thing they know their city raised house pets have disappeared. They don't have a clue in the world that Great Horned Owls or Coyotes aren't the friendly woodland citizens as portrayed by Disney and Marty Stouffer.

When that realization finally registers, a lot of those low information individuals do get all up in arms.

I live in a neighborhood that is surrounded my woods, swamps, etc. We have a ton of wildlife. Deer, bears, gator, snakes, coyotes, bobcats, etc.

Some of my neighbors can't figure out why something as simple as putting out the garbage the night before is a problem. They can't figure out why their garbage gets hit and others do not . It is quite simple. Putting the garbage out the night before is a problem.

Last year, there was a GIANT 4 pt. Massive body and in his prime. He exhibited some aggressive behavior from time to time during the rut.. Well, one morning I saw some woman walking her dog. Mr. 4 pt was there about 5 feet away all bowed up while her dog was barking at Mr. 4 PT. I warned her that she had better be careful as the rut was most definitely on. Her response? "Why? Its just a deer."

Some just don't get it.

I would assume the same could be said for urban coyotes and bobcats.

Fluffy and FiFi look just like lunch/dinner/snack.

Years ago I was driving down a rural gravel road west of Nashville and watched this coyote come around the corner of a house, sweep up Fluffy the yard cat and disappear around the other end of the house in less time than it took me to type this.

Several years ago the neighbor was walking her 3 dogs on her property and had 4 coyotes attack one of her dogs (probably 25 - 40 pounder) right in front of her, well actually they chased after a smaller dog that that gone up into the woods, but were happy to grab the other one when the smaller dog lead them down to it.

Last fall we had 4 different packs and apparently an alpha male in the neighborhood. I have only heard one pack recently.

Sad how people are ignorant of nature's realities

I am not meaning to rain on anyone's parade, but the difference between those of us that hunt/fish or have any real time knowledge of the Natural World, and city raised urbanites that have absolutely no clue what so ever as to predator/prey relationships, because their "Knowledge" of nature was provided by Disney or Stouffer Et Al, is as wide as the Pacific Ocean.

The old Bugs Bunny cartoons actually had it right, except instead of the Tasmanian Devil, it is the Great Horned Owl that will take out cats/small dogs, even week old deer fawns if the opportunity arises, it is just how they evolved.

Sorry that I took the subject off course, but I just feel bad having to explain to folks that have lost a treasured pet, that those pets are simply part of the food chain in rural areas.

Actually the dumb sob's have to learn sooner or later. Nothing pee's me off worse than a herd of cliff dwellers moving to the country and immediately buy several dogs that they let run loose. Deer, small game, cattle, you name it and the misbreed curs chase it. And the owners think it's cute.
One fellow, kinda a friend of mine, got really mad when a local farmer complained about his dogs running his cows. "They were just playing" he said. When he woke up one morning to find his dead dog on his front porch, he understood that the farmer wasn't "playing".
