Getting Started Right
Today was last day of deer season here in TX. Emily and I were hoping to find a deer for her - but we'll be eating pork chops instead of venison at the next barbeque. She had to wait and wait until she could make out which end was which in the tall brush. She made a fine shot and made her daddy very proud (as always).

What a great story. That is one fantastic little girl you have an I bet you are beaming ear to ear. Is that her first big game animal?

Excellent. Good to see a responsible father instilling an interest in Hunting in his children.

What a great hunting partner there! Tell your daughter congrats on the pig, and I was wondering how early did you start her off shooting?

Thanks guys. Emily is eight and last year was her first year of big game hunting. She killed a very nice eight-point white tail last year. We were snake-bit on her deer this year, but we've had lots of fun trying. She finds shooting pigs more "fun" than shooting deer. There's not that bittersweet feeling. I think hunting has really taught her the importance of preparation and patience.

The rifle is a takedown 6.5X55 built on an intermediate length mauser. Duane Wiebe built the rifle and it is a work of art. Emily claims it as her rifle. The LOP is too long for her, but I don't think I'll have that rifle whittled down.

Emily is also a champion ice skater. I think pig hunting will make her well rounded. My wife is worried she'll be the next Tonya Harding.

The young Lady has real good taste for rifles. I like my old M-1903 Mannlicher Schoenaur 6.5 x 54 for the same reasons. Well maybe you should have that smith build her one, that fits her. Look like the lady can shoot too. Good for her.

Forrest, tell your daughter congrats for me. I went pig hunting the same day your daughter got hers, but it was too cold here on the Red River. Saw a couple deer, headed for the Oklahoma side of the river.

When I saw you name I was intrigued, my father and brother are both Forrest B. What a coincidence.
Good luck and good shooting

Great story and a great kid no doubt. I know the feeling. I wanted a Ruger #1 for most of my life. I finaly got one in 22-250 and my daughter loves shooting so much. She allways tells my hunting friends it's her's when ever the safe is opened.

Maybe this belongs in the humor forum, but a friend here told me that Emily's natural inclination to shoot pigs will serve her well when she starts dating. It may well save me some trouble.

My best to all-
Forrest

That may well be true ForrestB.
I got lucky my daughters first boyfriend and so far only boyfriend. Has seen me shoot. So when he asked to date Leah I said sure as long as you follow the rules! Do I have to explan the rules son? NO SIR!
It also helps that I once told him I have a meat grinder and a river full of fish just two blocks away
She is a cutie Forrest and your going to need the fear factor on your side!
Good luck X-Ring
