LorenzoRed stags in Colorado ?
I saw in another forum a picture of a monster red stag hunted with bow in Colorado in public lands...the "thing" is a monster...but I am not very convinced of the story...somthing smells fishy...
So I ask the locals...are tehre any wild red stag hunting in Colorado ?

safari-lawyerNone free ranging.
There are likely some in one or two high fenced ranches there.

Lets hope they do not get into the wild or there will not be any good elk any more.
Reds will over take the Elk as they do not fight with rules. Stab in back after fight, etc.
I don't believe you'll even find them legally on ranches. If I'm not mistaken, I think Red Deer, due to their propensity for interbreeding with elk, are on the list of prohibited species in the State of Colorado. I don't have time to actually check the regs but the DOW has a list of such animals.
Doesn't mean they aren't there mind you. But they probably wouldn't be legal and they sure as hell don't exist in a free ranging population. The elk herd is too valuable to risk.

Flags is right! There's certainly none in the wild here in CO, and I am not aware of any high-fence ranch in CO with Stags. Can you post the link so we can check it out?

LorenzoAaron,
The following picture was posted in a south american hunting forum and says that the stag was hunted in public lands from Colorado.
The chap that posted says he find it in a magazine article.
I know how a free range red stag looks like and has nothing to do with this...or at least not 99 % of the time..

I live in Colorado and hunt all over it and that picture isn't Colorado, the foliage doesn't look right for our part of the world.
As Colorado in Spanish means a certain shade of red is there a chance that somewhere in South America there is another location called Colorado?

Maybe he meant Cardrona, not Colorado.

Aaron NeilsonWell, look at the bright side! Now I can start offering free-range Red Stag hunts in Colorado. Will, are you up for the first exploratory hunt? 7-day hunt @ $25,000.00, plus $25,000.00 trophy fee. Ya, I know its a bit expensive but this hunt could be One-of-A-Kind.

MileHighShooterI remember about...15 years ago or so, there was an alert from the CDOW about some red stag that had escaped from a game ranch. They advised to shoot to kill and report back to the CDOW office. I THINK it was in the SW part of the state
If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

You hit the nail. I went back to the forum and told the chap what Aaron and others said. The chap later wrote that he has confused what he read on the magazine and that the hunt took part in NZ !!!

He wrote a public apologize and everyone happy. There were already some people interested in hunting red stags in Colorado hahahaha.
Aaron, maybe you can "arrange" something ?
