dude, you realize you just resurrected an 8 year old post? that may be a record.

He's been making a habit of dredging up old posts. Kind of interesting to see the names of people who are no longer here... Roll Eyes

Speaking of, what ever happened to Nickudu? He was an interesting fellow, and posted lots of good stuff (lots of old articles and the like)...

When the Nickudu Files went away here he posted some articles at NitroExpress.Com and I think you can still reach him by PM there.

For what it's worth in this discussion, I often watched guys on a civilian range firing at paper targets with a 338 Mag. I noticed something -Many of them flinched (I was a rifle instructor back when dinosaurs roamed the earth). I was curious to find out why and asked to fire a guy's 338. I found out why very soon. The 338 has a real "kick" -and I mean a kick. When I find my vision through a scope being jolted as if an earthquake had hit I think the rifle "kicks". It's a perfectly simple test of whether a rifle "kicks" or whether it "pushes hard" like a 375 or even a 470 N.E.) (even if it pushes hard-shooters know what I'm talking about) For whatever reasons the African game authorities don't want the 338 used on the really big animals. That has to based on some kind of long time experience. (I,personally, think the reason is that -at the very least, a shooter should confront mzou or nyati with a rifle that he is not more afraid of than the citter in front of him) Smiler
