5 year stalk

ravenr5 year stalk
So let me set this up a bit...
8 years ago while guiding, I had a client give me his bow as a tip and challenge me to know how to use it by the next year when he would return to hunt again.
I shot the thing pretty faithfully for the next couple years and finally felt competent enough to try and use it to take a big game animal.
After a couple trips to Texas, where I used it to take 2 hogs,I set out in my home State of Wy in pursuit of Mule deer.
Sept. 2nd I achieved my goal of killing a Mule deer with a Bow. Its been a LONG trail with many failed stalks and missed shots.
A wild ride of adrenaline induced brain cramps where I forgot every rule for bow-man-ship and would walk away with my pride hurt but thankful that I hadn't wounded anything.
It all came together the day before yesterday when I snuck within 4 yards of this grandpa of a Mulie buck and placed a fatal arrow.
Its been a LONG time since my knees have turned to rubber and my body shook uncontrollably! but what a RUSH!!
I'm firmly hooked and can't wait to do it again.
Enjoy and safe travels.

The green colored thing is the nock.
Arrow exit
This is where he came to rest after a 100 yard death run, somersaulting 3 times.
Took a few pictures, chunked him up and loaded him on a pack frame and carried him out to the truck. A VERY satisfying walk.
Again, Enjoy and safe travels

Biggs300Congratulations! An old friend and former guide once told me that I would never be a real hunter until I've taken an animal with a bow. I don't bow hunt often and as a result, I guess I can't call myself a hunter…yet.
Start young, hunt hard, and enjoy God's bounty.

Kyler HamannWow, that's an amazing accomplishment!
Taking a buck in open country at 4 yards shows 100 times the hunting skill of taking one at 400 yards.

Renee and I were up in your neck of the woods this weekend. There is no doubt that you live in God's country.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.
Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

MARK H. YOUNGRemember folks this is the guy that snuck up on a bedded bull moose and killed it in its bed with a brain shot from his Mom's open sighted 30-30. He's pretty sneaky even if he is 7 feet tall. Of course if he turns sideways the game thinks he's a dead tree.

Thunder HeadCongrats,
Getting within bow range is exciting and addicting.
Ive hunted muleys in the Natl. grasslands. I have found you often find them bedded in shaded areas just like that.
I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.
