Does anyone know if this caliber is manufactured by any of the major gun companies?

Not to my knowledge but I built one on a FN
Supreme action & love the caliber. Sometimes you run into a 30/338 at the gunshows though.

Basically the 308 Norma. My rifle is chambered for the 308 Norma but I load by necking down 338 Win cases. No neck turning needed. Some might say you should fireform at that point but quite frankly I find this load so forgiving that the difference between formed and fresh necked down loads is minimal if it exists at all. I love this caliber as it's so forgiving in that different components, different powder types, etc., all fall at the same point of impact. A very specific example was when I decided to go from a "light" load of 72 gr H4831SC behind a 165gr bullet to 74 gr of the same powder...no real change over the chrono nor on paper. That kind of behavior makes it easy for which to load.

I've liked the 30/338 for quite a while. Ya get 300mag velocity from a shorter case with less powder. Like the man said it very forgiving and was used for a while as long range target shooting. I suspect the new short mags may well see a lot of use for target shooting.........

If I was prone to wildcats, then I would consider the 30-338 one of the best, and I used it a good deal for a few years along with other 300's...

The 30-338 is what the 300 Win. should have been if Win had any real gunsmiths it would have been.

After I tried them all, I finally settled on the oldest of the bunch, the 300 H&H because it handles the long 200 and 220 gr. bullets that I am so paritial too the best of any of the magnums.

All the guys at Pac-Nor barreling shoot 30-338s. Chris says the 30-338 is the shop favorite especially for elk. If you want magnum performance without the heavy recoil shoot a 30-338. I almost built one but a 30/06 project came up too cheap to pass up. sure-shot

The only one I've ever seen was a Remington actioned, hart barrelled, Palma rifle(1000 Meters)

It is virtually the same thing as a 308 Norma Magnum.

I have a .30/.338 Ruger with a Pac-Nor lightweight sporter barrel and Rimrock stock. It carries like an '06, shoots like a magnum, has plenty of neck and oal for the heavy bullets and reloads easy.I like it!

Basically the same (but not identical) cartridge as the .308 Norma, as mentioned earlier. .308 Norma gives you access to Factory rounds if that is important to you. An easy round to load for, The Parker Hale I have in this caliber shoots very well with almost everything I've tried in it. - Dan

Question to all. Do any of you neck ream when you use 338 win mag. brass for our beloved .30/338. I don't but I a curious if any of you do. What brand of brass do you prefer?

Bear Claw, I have a reamer for one (acquired in a lot) but have never used it. It was very popular before the .300 magnums were developed. Am wondering what the fascination is with them other than a being a wildcat.

I never did...

It is the same as the 308 NOrma but this is a rare case for a wildcat, and that is it was easier to get brass and make 30-338 than it was to get 308 Norma brass or loaded ammo, that may have changed now, I don't know.

CustomsTox I chose it because its oal was short enough to fit in a FN Supreme action I had. I get an honest 3265fps with 165 gr. Barnes X bullets & just under a inch at 100 yds.

That's some pretty impressive velocity for a 165 in this caliber. Care to share some loading info, at least the powder type?

I tried posting this once but apparently it didn't work. Anyway, that velocity from this caliber is quite impressive. Would you care to share some of your loading data? At the very least the type of powder used?

74gr H4831SC, 215 primers behind a 165gr bullet yields 3050 fps from my 308 Norma with 24" barrel btw.
