Jason PUtah Bear!
One of my family members had drawn a random tag the previous 3 years and had a great time.
This year my soon to be 76 year old father drew, along with my friend. They are both first time bear hunters. Hunt starts the end of of May, baited (which is my favorite way to hunt bear).
Really looking forward to it.

Nice! I killed my first bear in Northern Idaho, years ago on a self-guided spot and stalk hunt. It was the first bear I had ever seen in the wild. It ended up being about 10 years old. I was lucky!

M.ShyAs you know, big bears are fairly nocturnal
Couple of biggest ones took three years on baits to get them
Called them midnight bears

Yes they are! And, they are unpredictable. I’ve never killed a giant bear! I’ve had them on camera and that’s it!
Last year we had two bait sites out for my son’s hunt. We sat both of them on different days. The one night we switched, a big boar hit the other site right before dusk. We sat that site for the rest of the hunt. Never saw it again. He did pass on a nice blonde bear but as he had killed a nice 6’ bear a few years previous, he passed on it.
