Hunt4LifeOpening Weekend Buck
West TN DeerHere is the buck I took this weekend in West Tennessee. This is a pretty big buck for the areas I hunt. He weighed 195 lbs and had an 18" spread. I was hunting from a "Dog House" portable blind which worked very well. I had a doe and a spike come within 15 feet of me without spooking. All the leaves aren't off the trees so it was really better than stand hunting. I shot this buck at 20 feet with a Vanguard shooting 7mm Rem Mag Rem CL 150gr Express cartridges. The deer did not move an inch, nor did the bullet exit at that range. I tell you, there are newer and more stylish magnums but the old 7Rem Mag just plain works. I have had 15 DRT's with it from Boars to Whitetails.
Happy Hunting,
H4L

DocHey that's great. I love hunting from the ground, but I rarely use a blind. That something I'm going to get this year.

ReloaderCongrats on the Hunt!
I found a good spot this weekend that I had to hunt from the ground w/o a blind. I was on a good scrape line and saw a few does early then one came running in and at 25 yards spotted me and blew, I only caught a glimpse of the deer behind her but, I'm pretty sure it was him chasing her by. Those darn doe will sure hurt ya sometimes. I made a makeshift blind from green limbs, maybe it will work out this weekend. You just can't find a good tree to climb in some areas.
Have a Good One
