SnakeLoverWY draw results are out!!
Did better this year, actually drew for my mule deer tag, but not the antelope. Have to start spending a few more weekends on the range practicing with the bipod.
Anybody else have luck??

kudu56Whoopee shitin dee! This is the third year of not drawing nothing. I am leaning more and more of preference or bonus points for deer, elk, antelope. As a resident to boot. Thinking about going back to africa or to Texas to hunt. Yeah yeah, whine, whine! Shit I live here and can't hunt!

SnakeLoverResidents earn preference points on deer, elk and antelope? I didn't realize that, thought it was only for moose and sheep.
02 July 2003, 15:22
kudu56No no, I am beginning to want to see points for deer, elk, and antelope! Only way I can draw.
02 July 2003, 15:44
SnakeLoverOk, now I understand. What's the saying - "If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck"
I hear you about Africa - under 11 months until I get to go back!

HolmesI'm almost embarassed to mention my draw results. They mirror my luck over the last several years.
1 Mule deer, 1 whitetail, 1 elk, and 3 antelope.
All areas are known hunts and success has been good in the past.
Gonna be a good year

<GoWyo!>Congrats Holmes,
I fell asleep at the wheel and didn't get my antelope application in on time (I thought I'd sqeek in...nope.) Might buy some left over tags for jerky (doe tags), I always go general for elk and deer so no big whoop. I didn't know that they were doing the extra whitetail tags again. Missed out there. I am number 470 something for a bull buffalo (if they have to shoot that many). Dubious that. I plan on shooting birds over my new Weimaraner pup this fall anyway, no time for 4 leggers. You ought to see this 9 week old pup point! Hilarious and amazing, all at once.

ElkslayerBummer!
New rifle coming and didn't draw! Guess I'll try to draw on some of the leftover tags. That or go general.
03 July 2003, 03:03
TrapdoorI'm in the same boat as GoWyo....slipped up and forgot about the speed goat application. I also just do general tag for elk and deer. In a couple months, we'll see if I do as poorly as I did last season.

Chuck M.Trapdoor, I hunt elk in Alpine (the real small area in Alpine's backyard) when I can draw out. Seems like an every other year prospect. Got a 5x5 raghorn out of there last year - the only elk I saw in a week.
This year; Antelope - No, Muledeer - No, Elk (Alpine area) - No, Elk (cow/calf private land) Yes. I'll probably eat that tag.
Too bad about the residents that can't get tags - must be in a trophy area.
04 July 2003, 02:55
Marsh MuleFor more than 10 years, NO Elk or Antelope permit again this year! Two years for Deer.
I too believe that a preference point system needs to be put into place, at least say in areas where your chance of getting drawn are only 20% or lower.
For example the Area I put in for Elk I have only a 2% chance of being drawn and a 3% chance if I send in and extra 50%=$200.00 (Non-resident permits)
At least if the Residents don't get drawn for a "Limited Quota" permit you still can purchase a "General" Permit and go hunt each General area as it opens.
I see that next year all Permits fees for resident and non-resident alike are being increased by 20% across the board.

TrapdoorChuck,
Next time your around Alpine, let me know. Maybe we can figure out a way to get together!
Marsh,
Yep, license fees going up....because the G&F is broke...but they have enough money to build multi-million dollar facilities.....is it me, or does something not add up here?
The general tag is OK, but not exactly choice and has its limitations. Still, it is an excuse to spend money! If it weren't for antelope, moose, and sheep, I wouldn't even have to mess with that whole draw/mail in on time/let the state use your money for who knows how long thing. As far as moose and sheep go, I'm still a "lifetime" away from either of those tags, anyway!
I pulled a Gen Elk and an H tag.
Trap- I'll be passing through Alpine up the little Greys in Aug to scout some. It is a beautiful horse ride and some good hunting in your backyard. I have never had an H tag for deer, but we've hunted elk there a few times.
04 July 2003, 03:53
TrapdoorMGC,
I have spent ALOT of time up the Little Grey's the past couple months going after chucks. It is purdy country!
I know a few places in town where they sell beer if you want to drink a few before or after your scouting/hunting!
04 July 2003, 04:19
Marsh MuleOne thing I forgot to add was I did recieve a preference point for Moose. Maybe in 3 or 4 more years I'll be in the running for a Permit.
MGC: Hunt the middle to northern half of that region, the southern half along with the whole south west of Wyoming has been drought-stricken pretty hard for a few years now.
04 July 2003, 04:45
RAS 323I drew a deer tag for region J, no luck on the anteope tag. Three years running no elk tag.

What a great breed of dog, eh? One of the most expressive faces in the canine world and a brain that seems to function on multiple levels - whether the master wants it to or not
I had a chance years ago to spend some time with a photographer who raises and trains these guys for PR work. You may have seen some of his animals on various television commercials.
His dogs were incredible. I swear they knew they were film stars and fully acted the part!
I know next to nothing of bird hunting, but this is the breed I would choose just to have that wonderful personality.
Good luck to you and your clawed buddy.
Regards,

<mtmiller>Well after 3 years of trying, I drew a deer tag (H). Looking forward to some scouting in August.
Good luck to those who drew and better luck next year to those who did not.

kudu56I shouldn't bitch, we still have a good thing going. It woudl just be nice to get one limited tag each year. Either, elk , deer, or antelope. I do have 131 on buffalo if they go that far, I had 51 two years ago and never got a call. The quality of the hunt just insn't there in most general areas. Good luck to you guys that got tags!

Leif WoldI drew a nonresident G Deer tag. (Yep, I'm a green tagger), but I didn't draw any Colorado resident tags.
If any of you guys got any ideas for me I'd be grateful, never hunted unit G.
08 July 2003, 03:23
olefishextra cow tag
antelope hand gun
white tail tag
NO on any elk tag
I like the hand gun tag the best it is a lot of fun and I get to go early. olefish
This makes five drawings in a row we didnt get a tag we are starting to think that they dont want us out there. We want a tag because one we like to hunt but also we think with the wolves munching all the elk and prices on tags going up in a few years the hunting may run out or be priced out.( I hope not!)

JumpalotHate to chime in and brag but I drew antelope, deer and elk in limited quota areas two years in a row now. Last year I got a nice goat and a great deer but no elk. Hope to do better this year.
10 July 2003, 11:40
rbunt227i missed out on the elk tag, but did manage to draw deer j and 29 for antelope, first trip out to wy for big game, looking forward to it.
10 July 2003, 17:26
Toby HutchesonThe wife and I both drew antelope tags, and I picked up a deer tag. I also built a point on my Bighorn Sheep. Nothing like Wyoming. My blood is boiling already.
