Black Hills SD Turkey
Had a great hunt a couple of days ago in the Black Hills. I received permission on some private land I could see turkeys on from the road and for the price of a case of beer I was scouting out a place to sit the next morning. At dark I was able to get a bead on where their roost tree was as they would gobble their heads off to any noise. So the next morning, in the wind and the rain, I snuck within 100 yards of the roost tree and set out my decoys in an open hay field and sat myself back up against a tall pine with my video camera strapped to my knee. I talked back and forth with them on the roost for the next hour or so until they flew down and started going off the other direction of course. Luckily, a curious hen came into my decoy and started spinning it around and making the fighting purr sound. This attracted the attention of the toms and in they came and the rest is history. Four came in and three left. I get a huge thrill out of turkey hunting and is definitely something I look forward to every spring. Enjoy the video, its not long.

That's sweet.
Its not often the hens work in your favor.

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Yeah. Stupid me didn't have my gun ready and it was laying across my lap. He saw me move to raise it. Good thing I have a good point and shoot instinct.

Congrats! I need to get back out there for another Merriams hunt in the Black Hills, as I haven't been out there in at least five years.
