New organization for you RMEF fans. Sister organization to RMEF! RMWF Rocky Mountain Wolf Foundation.

Wyoming Game and Fish had to combine three moose areas in Sunlight Basin and reduce the tags to a total quota of just one of the three areas.

How about area nine? Plenty of willows there. Yet there is only one tag. And plenty of wolves.

I wouldn't take the position, even if you offered it to me. I've said several times that I don't really care for wolves and that still stands. I know that moose calves are eaten by wolves, just as deer, elk, rabbits and everything else. I also know moose are starving in parts of Wyoming.

Hey kudu, It does look like the Elk and Moose are getting the short end of the stick. What portion of the "decline in numbers" do you believe is attributable to things other than the Wolf? Like the Winter kills?

By the way, I really expected it to be the Rocky Mountain Wild-women Federation and I believe it would do well, quite well!

So what is causing the problem with willows? Livestock grazing riparian areas?

In my area the riparian areas aren't in bad shape,other then being grazed by livestock.The water supply in these areas is constant though. The moose aren't in bad shape either,but then we don't have the wolves yet either. I've seen the same moose in an area from spring clear into winter while snowmobiling,so I can see how they'd be an easy target for wolves.

The bear wolf relation is definately there. Biologists have documented grizzlies coming right out of hibernation and feeding on wolf kills,many times kicking wolves off of fresh kills. This leads to wolves having to kill more animals. Speculation is that grizzlies are one of the few animals that have benefited from the reintro of the wolf.


As for elk expanding in numbers. Again in my area the elk have definately increased in numbers,but there aren't any real levels of wolves present. Biologists are also claiming that mule deer and elk compete for similar habitat and with the decline of mule deer,elk have increased. I agree,I've seen elk in areas that were previously filled with mule deer and you never saw elk in,especially at low elevations.

Kudu56: I agree wholehearidly with your postings! The rmef is on my shit list and will stay there until (and I doubt they will un-green themselves to this extent) they actively fight to save our Elk from the present day hordes of Wolves!
Same thing is happening in many areas in Montana. They are controlling the Hunters (diminishing their opportunities) and letting the Wolves run wild!
Now in some of the areas of Montana that I spend lots of time in the Moose are doing well. But in the areas that have Wolves the Moose are also diminishing fast! Accordinging to my firends in the Big Hole Valley (where there are lots of Wolves) the Wolves also take adult Moose!
The willows are doing very well here in SW Montana and the only trees I see dying are the evergreens! They are suffering and dying at all elevations. This last few weeks of rain I hope will help diminish the fire threats around here!
Yes every contact I have had with the rmef has been turned into a green and happy word outlook on the Wolves.
There are a lot of head in the sand or head in the happy word clouds types who post on this board. If they think this Wolf situation will not severely affect Elk Hunting throughout the west then they are as stupid as the green happy words they babble - make them sound!
The RMWF suggestion you make illustrates a great point! The rmef and their complacency in this matter actually sickens me - these people should know better! I make it a point to let my feelings be known EVERY time I see a rmef sticker in a store window or on a truck. Pleasantly but without any possibility of doubt - I let them know how I feel about the cretins at the rmef and their collusion in this Wolf horror!
Like I have said before you folks in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Oregon and Washington just wait. Your turn is coming soon enough!

I agree the RMEF is far too "greenie" for me, amongst many other problems that I have with them. They certainly don't get any of my money.

Read the mission statement of the RMEF! They contradict themselves over conservation issues when they make a statement about elk and elk preservation yet defend the wolf reintorduction plan.
