One of the nut jobs was hospitalized but they wouldn't release his name (go figure). Does anyone have any more info on this story??? gabe

gophershooterThere was an article in yesterdays Bozeman Chronicle concerning this subject. There were 4 of these activists on a hike near Hebgen Lake when they encountered a sow with two cubs.Three of them fell to the ground and didnt move the other one started running and the bear attacked him.she mauled his face, chest and arms he was airlifted to Salt Lake City.
29 August 2002, 02:13
DutchThere's a front page picture on our newspaper today of the guy (dreadlocks and all). He was lifted to our hospital in Idaho Falls, not Salt Lake (we get all the gorings and maulings, usually).
It wasn't very bad, as maulings go, couple hundred stitches on his face, broken nose and a sore knee.
"at first, Amun barely moved as the bear charged through the trees. Then he began running. "I ran in circles", the 5-foot 9, 140-pound Amun said of his first encounter with a bear. "I went right by the cubs and tried to climb a tree, and there she was. Just like that, she tackled me, roared really loud, bit my face and bit my knee. Then I kicked her really hard (in the neck) and she went away".
"Amun doesn't blame the animal for protecting her cubs. But he doesn't blame himself for his wounds either. "it was neither one of us's fault; we need to learn to live together, that's all," he said."
Why do I have this vision of Pee-Wee Herman in my head......? HTH, Dutch.

<biff>He kicked the bear!!!!!! how cruel can he be shouldn't his little group kick him out or something for being cruel to animals???? LOL gabe

Animal rights protestor huh? Too perfect!
"I went right by the cubs and tried to climb a tree, and there she was..." Well duh! This guy's a rocket scientist.
"it was neither one of us's fault; we need to learn to live together, that's all," he said."
Amun doesn't understand that the bear was probably doing just fine before he showed up. I really don't think the bear was interested in living with Amun.
Says something positive for the bear.
They will probably go out and kill the bear now, because Amun is a bozo.
29 August 2002, 02:53
DutchYeah, "we need to learn to live together".
I suggest he starts by learning to walk AWAY from the cubs in the future. Sigh. Dutch.

BBTURTLE"We have no interest in removing the bear, so we're going to keep people out for a while," Coffin said Monday.
Bear 1 Activist 0
maybe the Bears can score some more because the ranger is on the bears side.
To top it all off they were in a closed part of the area.

SteveHere is a link to the article..:
Man attacked by grizzly - Bozeman Daily Chronicle The article states that the 'maul-ee' was a:
quote:
[member] of Buffalo Field Campaign, an environmental activist group based out of a cabin north of Hebgen Lake.
Not quite as ironic as if he were an animal rights activist, but ironic none-the-less.
I wonder how big a group they are if they all live in the same cabin
?
Take Care,

<JOHAN>Gentlemen,
This is to good to be true
I bet the idiots rights activists think they can teach the bears to break the natural behaviour and eat at a restaurant
I suggest adding the name brutalis to the latin name for Ursidae
![[Big Grin]](images/icons/grin.gif)
I hope some activists wants to teach Thalarctos maritimus a lesson. This would be a great show instead of circus, the romans were right after all.
Cheers

<Gerry>Now if he had been wearing bells and carrying pepper spray, mama grizzly would have fled, wouldn't she? Wouldn't she? Oh well, instead of the bells and pepper spray I'll bring along a few pounds of chopped beef next time I am in grizzly country. I believe that we must be friendly with our friends in the woods. Offer some food to the cubs and see what happens.(Please omit flowers for the closed casket ceremony.

)
Go Bear!!!! The only problem is that if the bear seriously hurts or kills the fools they will then want to kill the bear and probably will.

308winchesterDon't mess with mamma bear!
This people have no real respekt for wildlife. They are to bloody distant from the real world that is out there.

I hope that the game wardens will put out salt stones for the bears soo they don't have to run around with bad human breath
Perhaps salt stones with peppermint flavour for a fresh breath.
Cheers

waksupiGood one Pygmy. I'm up by Glacier Park, so trolling tourist for griz is a big thing in this area too. Love that Walt Disney!

Frank MartinezGoes to show that most activists aren't very active in the out-of-doors. Most have no experience and very little knowledge of what Mother Nature is really like-survival of the fit and aware.
It is really too bad that they can't be forced to register with the feds, take tests and swear allegience and then endure the appropriate waiting period before being allowed the use of the out of doors. I wonder really if they have any clue as to whether they really do have rights to be environmentalists. I wonder.
02 September 2002, 19:37
<BC hunter>Don't forget guy's. Hunters were the "first" enviromentalist's , and the good ones, are still to this day. It's unfortunate the name has changed the meaning.
It would have been a lot funnier story if in fact the fellow was animal rights activist. Perhaps he would have taken up hunting.

waksupiThe environmental green nazi wackos are trying to co-opt the name conservationists now, since being an environmentalist is being caught onto by the general public. If your local media start using the term, call them and make a stink.
Another tourist was bit in the ass yesterday down at Yellowstone. He was sleeping in his tent, and the bear bit through the fabric and nailed him. Tis the season, as bears are starting to move down to lower elevations now.

DutchThe saga continues to get better, and better.
Our hapless bison defender and grizzly baiter was discharged from the hospital yesterday, and escorted into a patrol car.
Seems like the good man has six felony counts outstanding for failure to pay child support in Illinois.
Three things:
1) I'm done paying for this slobs bills
2) Illinois, your turn to start paying for his housing!
and the scary one:
3) This guy reproduced...........

NitroXPygmy beat me to it, but I was going to say I hope the bear didn't catch anything from "Amun".

I don't understand

When I was a kid I remember watching "Grizzly Adams" and he said watching a cougar and her cubs only twenty feet away "We'll be OK as long as we don't go into her territory."

This proves that if you are a low life looser and have not done a jack shit in your life, but causing trouble, you can always become a green nazi. How about neutralize this fellow, no family bling bling to play with

waksupiThis may be an arguement for retro-active abortion. Think the Ninth Circuit Court will go for an abortion at 25 (or whatever) years old? This may be the proper age to start making the selections!
The Green Nazis should understand the selection process. They did it before in the fourties.

I think the studio dubbed over Mr Adams...what he actually said was "We'll we ok as the producer has the bitch chained to a tree..."
