kudu56Thanks! It is drier than during the depression. Driest since records have been kept. We have only seen one rain since January. Every night smoke rolls in from one fire or even two. Like a fog. And we have two long months to go!

First Yellowstone, then Hayman south west of Denver, now Colorado Springs.
And when did they stop thinning the forests again?
Poudre Valley burned a bit, but the CCC had returned it to its 1870's original version in the 1930's. Funny, we knew how to do it in the 1930's, but not now?
Just wait until RMNP torches. Actually, with all the crowded fir trees in the park that are non-native, I cannot believe that it hasn't gone up in flames already.
Sincerely,
Chris Bemis

kudu56If they had allowed logging of the beetle killed timber, many of the fires wouldn't near be as bad as they are.

justanotherhunterYeah we have 8-9 going last I heard. At least we have been having a pretty good rain the last few hours, that should help. Not soon enough to save my elk hunting spot though....that sucker went up in flames last week....

john113wyoGot a call this AM from a rancher NW of Wheatland, WY. The Arapaho Fire has consumed 93,000+ acres so far. She said they lost over 1000 acres of mountain pasture this morning. Some cattle still unaccounted for. Lots of evacuations.
Camp Grace, a local rural Bible school in the mountains is gone.
