CrazyhorseconsultingHow hard is it to pick up a left over speed goat tag in eastern Wyoming? I know I would have to get landowner permission/pasy a trespass fee, and I ain't looking for a record book buck, I would even consider doe tag(s). I shot my last goat in 1997 and I really want to go shoot one or two if possible.
Even the rocks don't last forever.

I usually have some left over Antelope doe/fawn tags in one of my areas. Once the draw results are out and left over license posted, I will let you know what is available.

Unit 7 archery bull, then on to Casper for my antelope. A day or two on the North Platte casting for natives will make for an awesome trip.

Congrats, I am looking to spped goat hunt there next year and will pick up a point in July, any suggestions on a good area for a decent hunt?

Not until January, so I guess the preference point will not do me any good because residents don't get them for antelope.

I am hoping to pick up some doe/fawn permits and hopefully get a buck tag in an area we can access.

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.
What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.
Wyoming must not like me. Struck out on moose, mule deer and antelope. My son struck out for mule deer and doe/buck antelope. We enjoyed a decade+ of great success and then they went to the point system.
I will just look forward to the reports from you guys this fall and accompany my wife on a solid CO deer hunt.

I'd bet he thinks raising the fees will reduce the applicants and better the odds of drawing. Not a mind-set I subscribe to, but many believe that is the way to go.
A huge thanks to WY for offering youth permits at a reduced price. I think that is a great investment in the future of hunting. My son, who killed a WY antelope last year, can't wait to get back and do it again.
They are already doing it with the Special license VS Regular license for Non-Residents.
Most of the time the Special license do increase the odds of drawing for Non-Residents.
Bumpkiss on Elk, drew a 68 type one tag with my BIL and nephew, that will be a hoot. Will pick up a couple doe tags for mas jerky.
I'm going to buy a general elk tag. Last year while looking for my antelope, we ran into a bachelor herd of branch horn bulls. My nephew had a gen tag. As we were on a stalk for a large buck that ultimately gave us the slip, I handed him my orange and my sako and he crawled up a draw and dusted a young 6x6. We were able to drive within 30 yds of it.
As for deer, general tag, whitetail. Mmmm good eats. My sister drew a buffalo tag, so we will be in Teton Park in early November looking for a wooly bugger Bull.

MOA TACTICALI am not a Wyoming resident, actually I am an Alaska resident, but I haven't hunted in Alaska in about 10 years as I have been engaged with a bit of a jihad in Stan's-lands.
Then I ended up moving overseas again, and now we are on the verge of moving back to the US, hopefully to Alaska, Wyoming or Montana just depends. Wyoming is my top pick right now as most of my family lives there and I think they would like to spend some time with the grand kids.
I don't want to see Wyoming become like Nevada where a resident can't expect to hunt every year.
Because of the damn wolves, and the number of people now utilizing Wyomings very generous non-resident tag system Wyoming gets a hell of a lot more pressure than it did when I was a resident kid hunting elk near Dubois growing up.
I am just scared for the residents of Wyoming.

MOA TACTICALI grew up in Wyoming in the 1970s and 1980s. Hard for me to see that much orange on the mountain these days.
Not to mention a bowhunter under every rock after elk.
I guess we will see how it turns out when we get back.
I wonder if I am the only one that is kind of devistated by the increased number of people in the Northern Rockies.
Can't be perfect forever.

CrazyhorseconsultingLooking at the situation from another aspect, a good bit of the the land in the Rocky Mountain states, is Federally owned, and is considered Public Land. As such any/all hunters that are citizens of the U.S., have the right to access those lands. That makes things rough on the citizens of those states and I understand their feelings about having to share something with folks that don't or may not share their attitudes concerning conduct on those areas.
A problem that may or may not arise in the future concerns Public Land and access ability issues, especially with various activities people do on these lands.
Even the rocks don't last forever.

Yes, it makes it tough, as wildlife is owned by the state, excepting the case of endangered species act or migratory wildlife.
I think that in the future we will see a challenge in the supreme court pitting hunter against hunter for use of Federal lands concerning wildlife in the West.
I don't have a problem with someone making a dime off of outfitting, but I think wholesale outfitter welfare is against the North American model of wildlife conservation and the public's use of public lands and state owned wildlife.
I'd really like to see more Western states adopt a 10% maximum tag allowcation for non-residents.
If you want a better shot at hunting sheep in Alaska, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, California, Oregon, Washington or Idaho move there.

To me it did last time I was home in 2010. I remember the Clinton years of not much money in Wyoming and the countryside was empty.

for a long time.

You had to, most jobs didn't last all year.
