Has anyone purchased a new Marlin 336 in the last couple years? If so, what has been your experince with it. I am thinking of picking one up, but would be interested to here people's impressions of the quality of the recent production guns.

I bought one in 30-30 for my wife about 10 years ago, but it's only had about 20 rounds through it. I picked it up this year for a brush gun and have worked up some loads for it using Partitions.

It's pretty amazing at 100 meters (for me), printing about 1 1/2 inch groups consistently. I'm loading slightly over the recommended maximum with 32 grains of, if I recall, IMR 4831 pushing a 170 gr. bullet.

A very nice-handling gun.

I have been thinking about buying one recently. That was the first gun I ever hunted deer with in CA. The only thing I do not like about the new ones is the wood, they seemed to look much nicer 20-25 years ago. Anyone have an older one they might want to sell?

The old 336 that I have is lacking the crossbolt safety that my new (last year) 1895gg has. I think that is the only bad part of a Marlin lever rifle.
The workmanship is outstanding. It is a beautiful rifle.

I bought one of the Stainless Steel ones a couple of years ago. Workmanship is excellent, and accuracy for a 30/30 is accurate. Or at least Marlins have always exhibited more accuracy than a Winchester ( IMHO).

For the price, there is no downside to a Marlin 30/30.
