I know there are a couple of posters on here from Venezuela, and perhaps a few other folks who have spent time there. It looks like I may have to go there for work at the end of the month. What are the sporting opportunities like, can I buy guns there and ship them home (thinking about those Venezuelan Mausers), anything else of interest? We will be working around Puerto Ordaz (Ciudad Guyana) for about three weeks to a month. - Dan
Don't count on any hunting, but bring your fishing gear; stiff worm rod, 20# line, and plenty of topwater Peacock Bass lures. You are headed for God's country. South of Ordaz is Guri Reservoir, the premier Peacock Bass fishing destination in Venezuela. If you are a fisherman and don't take advantage of this opportunity, you are also a dumb-ass.
Forget about buying a gun unless you are staying here. My guess is you won't get a gun out of the country on a quick turn-around. You can buy a gun here. Normally the weapons being sold here are pistols and shotguns, and not many of either.

TERRY8mmI miss the peacock bass myself. Since the recent strike my primary contact no longer works for PDVSA, and all my projects were put on hold.
I went hunting for wild goats a couple of times and bought an old 700/.308 that I leave with a friend in Punta Fijo.
Kensco is right about the fishing, its a blast.
