I got a Maine moose tag
So...I was lucky enough to draw a Maine moose tag for zone 22. Awesome...right? Well this is one of the worst zones in Maine..Smiler. Anyway...if someone has info on a guide for zone 22 that would be great. I'm also trying to swap...not going so well.Smiler

Congrats on the tag. Hopefully guides will start calling you soon. How many points did you have when you drew?

Thanks!

Double congrats, been trying for Unit 5 for a few years. Tough draw for non-residents but the size of the moose make it all the sweeter if you draw a tag. Good luck!

There's so many Moose up there now, you'll be fine. I see 8-10 Moose for every Whitetail I see when hunting up there.

Josh - Call F&W and ask them if you can retain your bonus points if you do not accept the WMD 22 tag. Success rate in 2012 for WMD 22. In 2012 there were 20 tags given for the month long "Any Moose" season in zone 22. 2 moose were taken. I doubt very much that Biebs spends anytime in WMD 22, or else he's full of it. I live in 22. Sorry to be such a bummer, but check my figures against those that Bill Swan at Maine F&W has if you want.

Groundtender....yeah, I have already seen those stats. The couple of guides I have talked to echoed the same thing. If I don't get to swap it for a better tag ill turn it back. Can't fork over that kinda time and money for such a small chance.
Do you have any first hand info...since you live in that unit?

Josh, I haven't hunted in 22 in over 5 years. I did for years for deer. In 15 or 20 days of hunting deer, I'd see moose a few times maybe. I can't say now from recent experience, but since F&W instituted the moose hunting in 22 four or five years back, I know that moose-vehicle accidents have gone away. All the districts that have the month long any moose tags are in fairly populated areas, and it's F&W stated goal to eliminate the moose for highway safety reasons. Hunting moose in those areas in no way resembles the stereotypical moose hunting that folks think of when thinking of Maine moose hunting. Too bad, I hope they'll give you your bonus points, or you can get a swap. There are also people listing swaps on Craigslist Maine under "items wanted" and/or "sporting". If you do come, contact me, and I'll give you exact coordinates for where I used to see them.

Good luck. Keep us posted ! Check with the biologist and game wardens for the area. They would probably be your best bet.
