I am considering a new video camera for the upcoming hunting seasons. Anybody have any recommendations? I'm not looking for the cheapest or a professional grade but something inbetween. Say with a maximum price tag of $2000 or so. What's the best buy in that price range?

don't be sold on a high digital zoom you want
a optical zoom also get one with a memory card
for still pics. there used to be a web site
where you plugged in what your preferences
and it came up with a list of possible makes
and models i thought i had it in my favorites
but i don't have it anymore

Take a look at the Panasonic PV-GS400 digital camcorder. It is a 3CCD camcorder that is as good or better than most entry level professional models. It also has a 4 megapixel still capability. I just came back from a hunting trip and can't say enough about the quality of the video (including performance near dark) and stills. They list for about $1500 and you should be able to get them a bit cheaper.

You might look at the high-definition digital video cameras. The places with the lowest prices are in your price range. For example the JVC GR-HD1 at B&H for $1899.95.

I got a Mini DVD Sony Handycam. With 20X Optical zoom and 800X Digital zoom. I am going to record all my hunts and stuff. I can play it on most DVD players. I got a lot of stuff for about $1000.00

I've purchased stuff from B&H before and have had good experiences with them. I actually purchased a video camera from them because they generally have very good prices. They make their money by trying to upsell you on various accessories at extremely high margins. Be ready for a hard sales pitch if you do buy something from them.
