JLHeardCARA & the Get Outdoors Act
Does anyone have any information on these bills? I looked around the internet and they seem to have a very divided reputation. It's either a ploy by Washington politicians to buy up private land which will limit hunting and shooting. Or it's a fantastic way to fund state and national fish and game depts. Which is it?
Organizations like the
Gun Owners of America hate it.
While other, such as the
US Sportsman's Alliance,
Field and Stream,
the NRA and others seem to support it.
Any info?
PS the is the VERY negative
article where I first of of these bills.

Mickey1CARA was defeated a couple of years ago by the Western Congressmen and Senators. It was pushed by the Easterners as a way to have more Federal Land in the East and not so much private property. Most of the West is already owned by the Federal Government or State Governments and it was seen as a land grab by the people out here. It depends on where you live whether or not it is a good bill.
The biggest fear is that it will limit access that Westerners already enjoy to Federal Land. The US Sportsmens Alliance is a self serving constituency mainly in the East. They see themselves as the reprsentative of all hunters but have no lobbying effort or anything other than a fundraising arm and a search engine to publish articles. The NRA, IMHO, is better off defending our Second Amendment rights than delving into Property Rights.
The GOA is also supported by many Green Groups as a way to limit Wilderness and National Forrest Access.
