Ok, just because I'm bored, what rifles are you guys taking for your antelope hunts this year? I will be using my .280/145grGS @ 2900fps. For back up, I'll take my .338x74K/225grNAB @ 2800fps, just because I haven't taken game w/ it yet.

I'll most likely be carrying my rifle called "Fat Bastard". It is a 338/300 WSM and it will be loaded with the 210 TX.

My wife will either her 6/06 with the 85 TX or the 270 with the new 110 TX.

THE very best thing about this years lope hunts will be that Brad (from our forms) and his son drew tags in the same area that my wife and I did. And I get the privaledge of sitting back and taking them to a couple of private ranches and watching them put the cochise on a Cole's first buck.

Now you tell me if just doesn't get any better than that does it??? Well maybe if we can put Cole on a Booner it would..grins

Been thinking of taking my .375. Haven't used it on game yet. I have used several calibers from the .243 up to a .300 H&H, even a .44 mag pistol for turbo goats. So I am thinking I might try some thing different this year.

wyo--I've used my M29 I inherited from my Granddad for lopes. It was an absolute kick and rates as one of my best hunts.

Quick version-I was with my Dad out by Jordan on a friends ranch and on opening morn I called a small buck in from about 600 to 30 then I spoked him called again got him to stop at 81 and I took him thru the tops of both shoulders.

Small goat but what a great hunt!!!

The other rifle I want to take a lope or two with is a Guide 45/70.

I'll be using a Rem. 700 stainless in 270win with a 140gr accubonds at 2990fps. LaRita will be using her Browning Stainless Stalker in 270win. With any luck we should get it sighted in this afternoon with either 130gr interbonds or 140gr accubonds.

Well, my antelope hunt is just around the corner. I will be hunting in New Mexico starting August 27th.

I will take my trusty 25-06 again this year. It has collected several speed goats already. Works every time.

My buddies have a couple of new Weatherby Accumarks chambered in .257 Wby Mag that they will take. That ought to be a great gun for long shots.

Getting excited, there are some dandy antelope down there in New Mexico.

Taking the .270 winchester, loaded up with the 140 gr. Accubonds. Am still debating whether or not to stick a pair of bi-pods on or not. I've got the Soney Point bi-pods which have worked pretty well in the past......

Fish- I am a big time fan of using a cheater (bipod), that with a rear rest of some sort (usually a day pack) and a practiced fella can do some good stuff at distance.

I was at the range at sunrise this morn, and a great one it was at that. I used my M700/7 Mashburn Super with a 4-14 Leo on it with a Premier reticle in it. I layed down and used a cheater and a rear rest and at 400 shot a group right at 2". I suspect that will be good enough for most lopes.

Point being I'd be for carrying the cheater.

I like my .270 WSM with 130 grain North Forks at 3405 fps and the .5 group it shot this afternoon. I also like my .257 Wby with a 100 grain Barnes TSX at 3650 fps with excellent accuracy. Good shooting.

If I had a speedgoat tag this year I would use my 257 AI. 115 gn BT's and 45.5 grs of IMR 4350 gets them over 3100 fs. Same load I took my Mulie with last year but Im going to try the new 110 gn Accubonds next deer season.

Theres just something about speedgoats and 1/4 bores that go together like peas and carrots.

No tags this year, but I'd take my 6mm-284, a Remington 700 set in an ancient 40X single-shot stock.

New Ultra Light Arms 270 Winchester with a Leupold 2.5-8 and the B&C reticle. Loaded with the 140 Nosler Accubond.

Cdl 7mag with Conquest scope. Probably will try to make some 140's shoot for these critters.

Mark Dobrenski, that's a good idea of using a day pack as a rear rest, have only used the stoney bi-pod on front so far. I think I'll buy a harris bipod and try the pack combo at the range--Thanks--Don

This year I'll carry both a 270 and a scoped 44 Mag. Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter. The 270 is dead-bang with 140gr. Hornady's. The 44 will be with 240gr. Hornady's at about 1400fps. If the landscape lends itself to stalking I'll give the 44 a try. I've gotten as close as 65 yds. to antelope and had shots out to 400 yds. I guess I'll see what happens.

I've only killed two antelopes, each with my Remington 725 in .280 Rem. 139 grains Hornady Interlock and 56.0 grains IMR 4350. That bullet is a bomb on antelope.

If I ever get another tag, I'll use the same outfit.

The .257 Weatherby Mag Mark V Euromark shooting the 110 gr. Nosler AccuBonds will be my choice this year. Normally I shoot the 115 gr. Nosler Partitions but wanted to try something different this year.

My apologies in advance, but quite certain that you don't need a 338 Mag for an antelope.
