What is your favorite gun?

<Daethorn>What is your favorite gun?
Ok what is your favorite gun? Now I am talking the 1 that you shoot the best and enjoy shooting the most. For me it would have to be my old Savage .243. I can shoot it off the bench or offhand about the same.

JLHeardOohhh...that's a toughy. I have a very nice Springfield 03-A3 that shoots like a dream. And a new Win M70 that was rebarreled in .300 H&H that I love.
But my all time favorite is a .45cal Colt Government model that I got for my 13th birthday. It feels like a piece of me when I shoot it.

It is not enough to fight for natural land and the west; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it's still there. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends...Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those deskbound men with their hearts in a safe-deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this: you will outlive the bastards.

rockheadMy favorite is my 30-06 husky with a 50mm 3X9 Redfield
But I am building a 9.3X62 which might be a future favorite medium bore.

WstrnhuntrHmmm thats like asking for a preferance over one of your children, I love um all!!

bearhunt'rEasy for me. Nothing fancy, really. Ruger stainless MKII in .338 Win. Mag. It's equipped with a Timney trigger, Mc Millian stock (bedded),and topped w/ Leopold Vari-xII 2-7 power scope. I only shoot handloads through this unit, and favor 250 grain loads. It is accurate off the bench, can manage well in the field, and has always killed what I aimed it at. Weight before ammo and sling is 8.5 lbs. I carry it in the mountains as well as the woods. Almost 1200 rounds have gone through this rifle. I guess I am so confident in it that it has become habit to reach for it. I hunt bear (brown and black,) moose, caribou, and goat with it.
I do have other rifles that might be more appropriate for specific game, but I plum just like to shoot this one!
best,
bhtr

fla3006This is even tougher than having to select only 5 guns. Of about 25 rifles I have to choose from, the ones I take to the field most often are a 22LR Marlin 39 and a Brno ZG-47 in 7x57, both with open sights. If I had to choose only one rifle for all my needs, it would be my Brno ZG-47 30-06 with a 6x Leupold in Warne detachable rings. Runner up might be a pre-64 Winchester M-70 Supergrade in 30-06.

<RobertJ>Hard to choose but... probably an early Rem700 Varmiteer in 243 this gun was 25 years old when I bought it, came with the first box of ammo from the original owner (half full). It's the coyote's nightmare

I hear you. That is about the way I feel about my .300 built on an Interarms Mark X action. It was made for me & feels like an old friend when I pick it up. It is by far my favorite.

<waldog>For fun? Hands down, I like shooting a shot gun the best. And I'm stoked about the Benelli Montefeltro I got last year. It's a perfect fit.
As for a rifle, .22 autos get the thumbs up.

LE270In rifles, a Remington 700 Limited Classic in .375 H&H with a Leupold M8 4X scope in Leupold QR mounts.
In shotguns, a Browning Citori 12 ga. O/U Sporting Clays with 28 in. factory ported barrels and low rib.

<X-Ring>My first Rifle, and still used the most. Remingtom 788 in 308 Winchester. It's topped with a old heavy plex Redfeild 4X Standerd feild of veiw.
It's a straight out dream to shoot, and she is a tack driver with the right scope. ie. thinner plex then what I'm useing on it now.

<ovis>Parker Brothers 12 gauge, built in 1921, and still as tight as the day it left the factory. Had to use it once on a black bear with slugs and has accounted for more game than the rest of my guns put together.
My favorite rifle is my newest, a Model 7 Remington in .260, just plain fun to shoot.
30 January 2002, 18:56
EterryMy favorite gun ??? Thats like asking me what is my favorite seafood. OK, if I have to choose, it would be my Marlin Golden 39. I have run countless rounds through it, killed untold small game with it. Used it to strike matches, split bullets with an axe, shoot dragonflies and cut twigs with it. I made my longest shot on a squirrel with it, 80 paces, iron sights. I have had it over 20 years, carried it on a horse for years, had the stock broke in a car wreck. I still woulndn't trade it for a new one. Too much history there. Matter of fact, I am going to get it out of the safe now and cuddle.
Good luck and good shooting

stubblejumperI have no real favorite. My hunting rifles are all custom built exacly the same except for caliber.I shoot my 7mmstw's and 300 ultra's equally well.

Robert D. LyonsSpringfield Armory M1A. Camo synthetic stock and handguard, A.R.M.S. #18 scope mount, Shepherd scope. It will make 5 rounds touch at 200 yards.

p dog shooterThe next one I am going to buy.
31 January 2002, 03:09
<phurley>I really like p dog shooter's answer, and for me it is probably the .270 WSM. Presently it is a .358 STA Model 70 Winchester out of their custom shop. Stainless with a piece of Red Turkish Walnut that has to be seen to be appreciated. I topped it with a Silver 4.5 X 14 Leupold Vari-X III. It will shoot a one hole group with two different sized North Fork bullets when I have a good day behind it. Pleasing to the eye and target and game. Good shooting.

<Ol' Sarge>My favorite is my old Rem 700 ADL .30-06 I bought new in '68. It is simply the most accurate and consistent rifle I've ever had in my hands. I have taken hundreds of big game all over the US including Alaska, from javalina to moose with it and I have the utmost confidence in it.

J.W. BluteThe Marlin model 39A, hands down.
The first time I fired that gun I was about five years old. (I was so small my father had to prop it across a saw horse) Shooting that rifle is one of my fondest childhood memories. It is also how I spent most of my time in JR High and High School.
I now own over 30 fire arms.......but that little 39A is still the one that feels the most at home in my hands.

old4x4Hands down..My custom stocked SSK built T/C carbine in 309 JDJ. I've got a Weaver 4x scope on it. Weighs 6 1/2 lbs loaded and will group less than an inch at 100 yds every time if I do my part. I can carry that sucker all day long

<Don Martin29>Remington 40X Free Rifle, 6mm Rem International. New bbl is now a Douglas but it's the same 28" and 1-10 twist.
I have won a lot of matches with this rifle. I have a twin in .22LR.
I can't shoot it as well offhand as off the bench. Almost as well however.

03 February 2002, 10:08
Big 17As my name implies, a Remington M700 BDL in 17 remington. No recoil, banjo string tragectory, and kills like lightning. A close runner up would be my pre-64 Win M70 in 264 Win Mag.
Both rifles are too much fun.
Big 17

Major CaliberMy Mark X Mannlicher .270 win, it handles like a dream, and I never miss with it.

Ray, AlaskaOnly have one rifle, a .338 WM, Ruger M77 MK-II, stainless, CRF. It sees through a Leupold Vary-X III 2.5-8x, and it "just works" for me in Alaska. I use 230-grain FS, 250-grain NOS bullets. I will be using 275-grain Swift A-Frame and maybe 300-grain Woodleigh in about a year or so.
