<tasunkawitko>what will you be hunting/using this year?
i know this is kind of along the same lines of the "what will you be using on opening day" thread, but i was thinking that some peeps like to use one weapon for everything, while others like to utilize the entire aresnal, if they can.
for myself, it breaks down like this:
WHITETAIL DEER
marlin m336cs .30/30
simmons 44mag 2-7x44mm scope
remington 150-grain core-lokt ammo
MULE DEER
herter's mj9 .308
tasco world class plus 3-9x44mm scope
federal 165-grain sierra gameking ammo
PRONGHORN ANTELOPE*
cz m550 american .275 rigby
leupold 3.5-10x50mm scope (unless jim needs it back!)
winchester 140-grain powerpoint ammo
ELK**
herter's mj9 .308
tasco world class plus 3-9x44mm scope
federal 165-grain sierra gameking ammo
*i plan to get an OTC doe tag, but haven't finalized these plans yet.
** IF i go.....
how about the rest of you guys?

browningguyWell I'm going to cull a couple of does and thinking I'll use the 7.65 Argentine sporter for one and the Ernst Hunger 8mm Mauser sporter for the other. I've decided to try open sights for these.
For regular hunts:
Blackbuck - BLR in 300 WinMag
Whitetail/Axis deer - 7x57 Mauser
Naturally I'll cary the Ruger 77RSI in 308 as my backup for each hunt.

Probably my .35 whelen AI, with 225g Game Kings. My .264winmag with 140's for the pig if I get it ready in time (I am thinking maybe a hunt around dec).
Even though I have lots of rifles most of them are not ready for hunting with. very sad, need to get more range time in.

Hi T
Just north of you, in area 690, for antelope and grouse. The map shows lots of BLM land around Bullwhacker Creek and Cow Creek, and we'll be ready for a little hiking after riding a couple of days.
We are probably going to 700 for mule deer but may stay in 690 if things look good. I have not been to 690 before and am looking forward to seeing some new country.

<tasunkawitko>tom -
i'm off to the shop to pick up the regulation/map pack, but if i am not mistaken, you are going to the area where i grew up(south of chinook, north of the missouri river)! if this is the case, you will do well; my dad got a 14-inch buck last year about 5 minutes (or less) into the season, and we saw quite a few all day long. i filled my doe tag on the first day as well. here are a couple of pix of my dad with his buck.
i wrote an "essay" of my experiences there last year which you might find useful. you can click
here to check it out if you wish.
if you need any other information, arial photos, maps, or other assorted advice from someone who has been there and killed a couple of antelope and LOTS of deer there, shoot me a PM or email or something.
good luck! and enjoy the view.....
ron

Yes, that's the area. I wish I'd grown up there too. Maybe I'll get to grow old in a place like that...

<tasunkawitko>tom - sounds great to me! i live in lewistown, which, depending on the route you take, is right on the way to where you will be going. i will either be there or i will be in chinook hunting if my surplus tag application works out well!
pm me when the time gets closer to your departure, and we can work out the details!
take care,

JBDWhitetail - S&W 44Mag Classic DX 83/8 barrel open sights 240 gr Hornady XTP
Mule Deer - Remington Sendero 7mm Ultra Mag Leupold 6.5x20x40 159gr Ballistic Silver Tip
I try to come up with a different rifle for the Mulies every year but always use either my 44 or a 30-30 model 94 for the Whitetail. All of my Whitetail hunting is done in very close cover.
