Cow elk in NM?
I have a friend that just moved to NM and told me to come out and hunt some cow elk sometime. What is the deal about draw, private/public land, availability, leads on places to hunt. I really don't need big horns, just a nice meat cow. I don't mind packing it out if necessary. Thanks, good hunting and Merry Christmas.

Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. Good hunting, "D"

Hey D,

I hunted at the East Moreno Ranch (fair chase only) in Eagle Nest and had a ball. Took my third 6x6 bull there. They put on cow elk hunts after the bull hunts and they run in the $1500 range. This includes guide, lodging, care of the animal after its down etc.

Just my 2 cents worth. Hope Santa is good to you.
