May seem like a dumb question, but for you guys who have flown to a wilderness destination, how did you fly your sleeping bag? My luggage is too small to hold mine. Did you take it as excess baggage, stow it in big bag, what? If you have 1 carryon, 1 gun case, and your clothes bag, what did you do?

You might try a compression stuff sack or get as large a duffle bag as they'll let you fly without penalty.

.....or you could put it in a box and mail it to your guide. The compression bag is a great idea either way.

I've taken mine as my carry-on twice, and shipped once. It is an easy carry on, but not having anything to get by on until the luggage is found made me nervous.

Then when they unloaded my rifle it was thrown onto some shelves in the hallway with no security around and an outside door 30' away. This was post 9-11 in Portland, Or. I have driven the last couple times. Nate

I have two ,they both have diffrent Tempeture ratings. Both are in stuff sacks,I usally pack it in my Weather proof Pack bag.The other thing is I have a duffle with my gun in the under compartment.

I flew to Wyoming for a hunt last fall. Between my gun case, luggage and carry on with my camera,GPS,and other gismos, I didn't have room for the sleeping bag. My solution was to find the nearest Walmart and buy an inexpensive sleeping bag, pillow, and Polar Fleece bag liner. When I was done with the hunt, I gave the bag to my guide, gave the pillow to one of my fellow hunters who was staying longer, and took the bag liner home with me since it didn't take up much room. It wasn't worth the hassle of trying to bring my own stuff for the paltry $25 that I spent at Walmart. In these days of $80 fees for excess baggage, this is the only way as far as I'm concerned.

I use a Tuffpak when I'm flying. Sleeping bag goes right in with my rifle, jacket, and plenty of other stuff. Regular clothes in a duffle and I'm good to go with two pieces of checked luggage. Gun cases that only hold guns don't make any sense to me. Before I got the Tuffpak I used an SKB golf club case. Rifle in a soft case, sleeping bag, boots, pillow, etc. all in one case.

I use one of the big bags form Cabelas, my sleeping bag fits in them with a lot of room left for clothing and other items.

Interesting tips, will add one thought, if you go the route of a bunch of stuff in a big bag, you need to pay attention to the weight. Last time I went on a golf trip, my golf bag with 2 dozen balls, 2 pairs of shoes and a couple of extra windshirts and 1 rainsuit, was over the 50 lb limit. Both pairs of shoes had shoe trees in them, and pulling one pair of shoes got me under the limit, 1 shoe may have done it, the weight was at 53 lbs. or so. Point being that my stock gear, nothing really extra packed in was over the damn limit. Then I put the shoes in my other checked bag, and I'm OK--seems kind of silly, same weight is going on the plane--I know--theyhave people lifting this stuff so they need to impose a limit for that reason--still seems kind of lame to me--if you pay more money, you can go with an overweight bag.

The Tuff-Pak system sounds like a good idea.
I have a concern with the TSB and the weapon..
What steps do you take to make sure Your weapon is repacked right after inspection.
Also, any other pointers that would be of concern here..

Compression bag or duffle of some kind. When I flew to sheep-camp in the NWTs I had it in my backpack and checked it.
