Greg,

The answer came, but it was too faint for the video so I cut it to keep the clip short. I did get some good audio of answers a few minutes later but the bull was coming and I had the camera pointed at the ground while I was getting ready. Unfortunately the bull hung up in the timber about 100 yards off and my buddy (the bugler in the clip) never got a shot.

Hey GEEJAY -

At one time my brother and I had a house on Hilton Head Island, and we'd usually visit there in August. Naturally, the heat/humidity at that time of year made our soft Northern bodies cry out for Air Conditioning, which would go on the blink about 1 hour after we got there. Anyway, the A/C guy and I got to talking one Saturday about the long hunting season you have there. I got the impression from him that it wasn't as big a deal there as the two week season is here in PA, where schools, businesses, etc.., shut down for the first day of the antlered season.

Aren't you allowed one deer a day, or something like that? If they did that here, there would be no deer left.

Like gophershooter said, sitting in a stand in 90 degree/90% humidity weather is probably not a lot of fun. (Yeah, right, we're just jealous) [Smile]

Were you doing that off the back of your horse? I own two horses and don't think either is elk call broke! But they are gun broke (22 revolver with rat shot for the hounds) and whip broke...both of which I use on a regular basis during a foxhunt

Hate to say it boys, but . . . . THE ITCH HAS BEEN SCRATCHED!!! [Big Grin]

This small buck small Sitka Blacktail was taken Aug 2nd by myself. Obviously, it's nothing to brag about, but good eatin' for sure. The rifle is a Ruger #1 in .30 Gibbs. 180 gr Nosler partition gold's were used at a MV of 2,960 fps. 40 yds shot thru the neck.

Now the following image is a composite of 3 fellows I work with at the Alaska Dept. of Transportation. One is actually my boss. They all shot full curl , or better, Dall sheep during the second week of August. Those turkeys didn't even invite me!!! [Mad]

I can take some satisfaction is that I helped on the guys (non-handloader) with some loads that he used to bag his sheep. He's the young guys with the goatee. We cooked up some 200 gr B-Tips for his .338 Winny. He used them for a 150 yd neck shot on a Blacktail buck and a 40 yd shot on his sheep. Bullet did fragment quite a bit at this close of range (MV ~ 2,950 fps) but he did recover the jacket, which has separated from the core.

Maybe I'll get an invite next year [Razz]

Itching! I can hardly sleep. I am going on my first ever hunt this October for deer in California. I'm 31 and got a real late statrt on hunting, but I am like a kid waiting for Christmas day. Unfortunately my deer zone is one of the highest alloted in the state and I will be going close to the end of the season. Hope to harvest a nice late season buck.

Canuck,

Just about every night, right outside of where I live there are about 15 bulls that come down to feed in a large pasture right off the freeway. HALF of these are 6x6 or better. One is a huge 7x6 and another is a really heavily palmed 8x7. I have never hunted elk but the itch is starting to get to me as I watch these boys every night! The larger animals are almost totally out of their velvet now and I watched the big 7x6 really push around a younger 5x5 last night around dusk.
MAN THEY ARE NEAT CRITTERS!

Regards,

Bill, 470 Mbogo and I will be coming by to see you in a week or so. If you like we could try hunting that bull for you. I am sure that we will chase him out of the country, but at least he won't be teasing you anymore! [Wink]
