Re: Saw a deer with MAJOR skin problems....
My wife shot a buck deer with these growths several years ago in Texas. The Game Warden told us the same thing that the article says. Since one deer can spread it to other deer, I would take her out.

The growths go away when the animal gets older, and doesn't really bother them. It just looks gross, so there's no real reason to put them out of their misery.

Yesterday afternoon while deer hunting at my farm I saw a deer up close that I had only seen from a distance previously. It was a doe that clearly has major skin problems. She had big black things growing off of her body that looked awful. One, for example, is a blob that was about 2 inches in diameter and dangles down off of her neck near her chest. Others are around the inside of her armpits, so to speak. Then you'll see more simply growing off the area around her shoulder blades. Some the worst ones are on the skin around the bottom of her eyes, causing the eyes to get pulled down and exposing all the red that you see if you pull your eyes down toward your cheeks. It's pretty disgusting looking.
I looked at her from about 50 yards through my binoculars for about 5 minutes; probably should have shot her, but I just didn't want to mess up a good hunt for a buck while blasting a doe.
Any thoughts on what could be wrong with this deer?

I've seen those. I was told they are just warts or benign skin tumors.
