Marlin Guide Gun .45-70
What kind of velocities can I expect from this combo? With respect to bullet weight, of course.

In the 1895 Guide gun,

Winchesters .45-70 load using Noslers 300-grain Partition Gold is chronographed at 1827fps in SHOOTING TIMES oct. 1999.

The Winchester 300 gr JHP ran 1669 from my Guide Gun and a handload of 405 Rem bullet ran 1943 fps. Also a 550 gr cast bullet I use runs 1470 with very good accuracy.

The Winchester 300 gr. JHP clocked 1727 in my Guide Gun the first time I chronied it. Later tried some Win. 300 JHP's in the new silver packaging, and they ran 1863. I could have sworn I had chronographed Remington's factory offerings as well, but can't find them in my notes. I'll post here if I find the data.

I can tell you, the 300 gr. Remingtons were about 50 fps faster in my 12" Contender than the old Winchester 300 gr. JHP, but the newer 300 grainers in the silver packaging were 200 fps faster yet.

i am shooting a 300gr nosler and 60grs of reloader 7 i get a average of 2325fps and it is a very accurate load in my gun.i did work up to a higher load and back down to this one pressure should be no higher than marlin runs in their 450mag.

I've got a 350 HDY load that shoots 1.25 to 1.50 3 shot groups with 40.5 grains of IMR 4198.

Chrony says it does, about 1680 and 1667 FPS in ten shot strings the times I have recorded it.
The manual says it should be doing better than 1700, but it doesn't out of my Marlin, that has a 20 inch barrel. I don't know what their test barrel was.
I just noticed you said "guide gun"...sorry, that barrel is shorter. But hopefully this will give you some help.

I don't have any velocity figures for the guide gun but just want to add that a velocity loss of 100 to 150 fps with the 300 to 405 grain bullets out of a 45-70 isn't something to loose any sleep over or should be a deciding factor on getting a GG. I know that it may sound like alot but those big heavy, slow moveing bullets work undere a different set of princibles than the Super Mags.

1900+ sounds about right in my 45-70 guide with 405s. I found these bullets so accurate thats all I use in it any more.

I get right at 1975 fps with the 350 grain flatnose from PMC, this is from a 1895SS. I like the 350 grain bullet as a good all around choice in the .45-70
