Fantastic Buck - Was out on Monday ( opening day in Pa) and all I got was cold.

Can I ask why you cut his throat at all? The only bleading dead critters do is by gravity flow. Doesn't look as though you hung him to make that happen. Kind of a shame to ruin a cape like that.

Part of what you see is a neckshot as well..Only shot I had..Did cut too far up..Didnt know to tell the truth..Like I said never had a buck like this...KNow if there is a next time..

Well, it's a real nice buck. But next time when you field dress, cut up to the brisket only...right where the diaphragm is. From there fwd, save it. Even if it is neck shot.

You can find a taxidermist that can get you another cape if you plan on mounting him. But it may not be so easy to find a big swollen cape.
