Since I probably won't ever get off the N.American Continent, I think, no I know I have all the bases covered for critters here; .223, .243, 25-06, 270(Yes!) and 7mmRem Mag. Real interesting reading on this thread and some funny stuff too. But likes and dislikes are fun to discuss based on personal touchy feeling stuff, but to condem one, especially if you never owned one is beyond me. Yes, I have shot the 600 NEx..never again. Got one bad rotater cuff, not on my shooting shoulder, don't need nother one. Keep it up boys, your a doing just fine.
I'll put my vote with the guys who think the Weatherby line-up sucks. As someone once said, Roy Weatherby doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground about firearms. Weatherby's specialty is purely marketing hype. His technique is simply to stick some ridiculously large case behind every bullet available and make a lot of wild claims for it and the gullable public eats it up. The truth is the Weatherby line-ups real claim to fame should be the most inefficient, over-bore capacity, barrel eating cartridges on the planet. I've seen a several Weatherby rifles with severe cases of throat erosion and accuracy in the toilet in less than 1,000 rds! Pouring an extra 20-30 grains of powder down a barrel just to try to squeek out an extra 100 or so feet per second don't make since to this old goat and for sure I've never seen it make any difference in the field hunting!
As for some of the other comments, I used to be a .270 hater until I got one. It's very effective and one of the easiest rifles to shoot well I've ever owned. Ditto for the .308. Sure an /06 will out perform it and I love an /06 but with my shoulder problems I appreciate a little less recoil.
I've owned and been around a world of .243s all my life and have NEVER seen one in anyone's hands live up to half the claims for this round.
And I've made my share of 30/30 jokes, but I've also been around enough to know that within their range and used properly, they work as well as anything out there. Hating a 30/30 is like hating your dog because you can't saddle and ride him. It's time we gave this poor old cartridge a little respect. It's low and slow and a lot of other things including obselete as hell, but it's sure fed and protected scads of folk in its time...and still does.
Finally, I think a lot of the bad feelings some of us have for certain cartridges may really be our own fault because we used the wrong bullet for the job. Poor bullet choice is one of the fastest ways I know to disappointing results. I dare say if we changed bullets and put more thought in our selection for the game at hand, many of us might change our votes here.
(The preceeding opinion and .50 cents will entitle you to a cup of coffee in most cheap restaurants across the land.)

A well placed bullet is worth 1,000 ft/lbs of energy.

If I owned that one damn cartridge I wouldn't of had to dream and buy all the other cartridges, Just immagine, only one chambering. The thought is repulsive.
I HATEE THE 06
