My Texas Slam

GeedubyaMy Texas Slam
Used to shoot quite a few rams years ago. Saw a post earlier of a nice Corsican (if memory serves correctly). Thought I might post a few pictures of some of the rams I took years ago when I had the opportunity. The leases I'm on now do not have any sheep/goats other than audad.

Corsican taken with bow
New Zealand Ram taken with bow
Black Hawaiian taken w/ 270 winchester
Mouflon taken with 315/70 R16 Goodyear Wrangler AT, ruger blackhawk in 41 mag and poulan chainsaw (but that's another story)
Texas Dall, taken with S&W model 29 in 44 mag
Mouflon taken with 7stw

Bobby TomekThose are some super trophies.

I like them all but think the bottom photo of the Euro-type mount of the mouflon is my favorite, though the New Zealand ram looks rather regal with that spread.
Some day, though, I am going to HAVE to hear that tire-.41-chainsaw story... I am already painting a picture in my head of how all of that may have transpired.

Troy HibbittsI had a property that I used to hunt where I could shoot one of those pretty much every weekend . . . I eventually got tired of it, but here are some pix:
my first one, shot with a 7x57 Ruger M77
my 2nd one, shot with a 6.5x284 Encore
My third one, shot first with the 30-30 Contender and open sights, but shot poorly - I had to finish it with the 6.5
And my last (and best) one, shot with the 30-30 topped with a 2x Weaver scope (at 115 yards)
My wife got the biggest one we shot there (with her .260 Encore)
We saw one Ram in April of 2003 that was MUCH bigger than any of these, and I had an easy 30 yard shot on it, but passed so that I could try to put my wife on him. When we stalked in on him the 2nd time, he was in with a huge herd which spooked off without us being able to get a shot.

GeedubyaTroy,
If I recall correctly I met you and your wife at the big bore shoot in Julif last Feb or March. I think your darlin' bride was shootin' a 9.3 x 62 that afternoon, and took a pretty nice axis a couple of weeks later. I used to go through camp wood on my way to the southern cross ranch north of there. The Verners owned it at that time. Hope all is well and that you had a good season. Happy new year.

Bobby TomekTroy-
Those are nice! Plus, you're hunting in some of my favorite type of terrain.

Ryan CampbellWell done.
The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends.
I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

Yeah, she shot my 9.3 that day . . . bought herself a 375 Ruger a few weeks later.
My season went Ok - some highs and lows . . . shot a "management" (freebie) blackbuck in September, missed a tough shot at an Elk in NM in October (still 2nd guessing my shot on that one), screwed up a shot and lost a public lands 8 pt in Nov, the wife got her a public lands 8 pt later that month, and spent most of the rest of the time trying to put my too-picky daughter on a buck (she only wanted to shoot an 8 point) which I never saw while she was sitting with me.
Oh, and I got myself a new 9.3x74R barrel for my Encore LOL
