Animal interaction
This time of year I try to go for a bit of a hike with Beagle Bailey each morning in an attempt to help her get rid of some of the extra weight she puts on over the winter. Sadly, it's getting to where our respective body fat percentages are not that much different so the walk does me good as well!
Anyway, this time of year we are surrounded by elk and we always walk through 2 or 3 good sized bunches each morning. Beagle Bailey carefully ignores the elk. Perhaps she remembers a frightening experience as a pup when a whole herd, curious as to why a little brown and white dog would be running in circles and yipping, came over to investigate.
This morning we had made about a 2mile circle and were coming back toward the house before we encountered the elk. I heard a couple of chirps from the cows then, to my surprise, the bull bugled! As if to answer him, a turkey down in the draw gobbled. This ellicited another bugle from the bull and Beagle Bailey, not to be outdone, joined in with her best "arooo". One more bugle and a chorus of chirps and the elk herd was on it's way with the beagle watching from behind her humans legs and helping them along with some more baying. In her mind I'm sure she stampeded that herd herself and in some way got even for that scary moment in her puppyhood!
Another thread asks if turkeys are big game. Well, I can't really say from my viewpoint but I think Bailley would say "yes". They are large enough that Beagle Bailey, a known chicken killer, stays well away from them. So while this particular tom continued to gobble away Bailey, eyes averted, trotted back to the house.Regards, Bill.

Love hearing your stories, Bill. You ought to collect them and put them in a book.

Thanks Bill. [Smile]

If you need a manager for your literary career, I'd be happy to trade my time for gunsmithing!
