Will the price of gasoline effect your hunting this year in the United States??

This question was asked of me and some others and I though I would see about what those here have to say on this. For myself and my family we have planned to drive to Nevada and Oregon for deer/bear/elk this year. And flying to Alaska and Idaho for big game. Nothing is going to stop our hunting pleasure. Lawdog

Well, we pay right around $4.00/gallon right now up here, and I really wasn't planning on letting it ruin my hunt ths fall... Good thing my Dad's little S10 has the 2.4L 4cyl... People may laugh, but it quiet, good on gas, 4x4, and can haul a few nice deer home in relative comfort.

I'm lucky enough to not have to travel more than about 30 miles for all my hunting needs, so it definately won't matter.

No. But it might get to expensive to drive to work though.

Well, I am glad some of my hunting brethern are not being inconvenienced with these fuel prices...

I myself have cut out a trip to Montana to go prairie dog shooting this summer...

I am buying a little fuel as possible.... these fuel prices have me pissed off enough... I can see Homeland Security knocking on my door if I gave my opinion and response to it....

They are still paying less than 10 cents a gallon in Iraq tho...Courtesy of the US Government, which seems to be more concerned about the wallet of the average Iraqi than the average American...

Price fixing and monopoly practices are suppose to be in violation of the Sherman Anti Trust Act.. However, as long as the Federal Government seems to be getting their cut in high taxes from the Oil companies they can turn their heads the other way....

I will only go hunting locally, cut out the scouting and personally curse every dam executive that works for an oil company for every drop that I have to pay this kind of pricing for...

IN Oregon, we are the only state with no self serve... they ought to be paying the people that have to pump this fuel $25.00 an hour for the profits the oil companies and the price fixing the local dealers are doing....screwing the public and screwing their employees...So what else is new...

Too bad American's are too lazy and unwilling to organize to rebel against the price gouging fuel prices...So we all get screwed while people just shrug their shoulders and say "what can you do"....Plenty.. Cut Down and Screw the Dam OIL companies...

The way I see it, and it pisses me off to no end...Citizens just don't matter to the government.. I bet we all wish we were as financially as well off as the oil companies and the government act like we are....

I cannot put a price on my seasonal hunting irregardless of the 5.50 per/gal charge our landing charges dictate. Shall do what needs to be done and have pure pleasure and never think twice about the couple of drums required. Good huntin!

I'll probably spend 2 or three hundred more on gas but, I'll be there w/ bells on. That would buy a nice set of Binos though .

Oh Well, doesn't surprise me a bit w/ our government.

It won't affect my hunting. My fishing may get cut shorter though...3-4mpg in my boat at cruising speeds.

It will effect my hunting. Instead of buying a full size rig or a new Liberty, I'm buying a little rice-burner. A little less room, a little less power, but I will be TICKED OFF if I hunt less than 80 (part) days this year. Hunting season only comes once a year! JMO, Dutch.

Nope! New Jersey is no self serve too! The funny thing about it, alot of people are trying to get it, they think the'll pay less! Across the river in PA the're paying 10 to 12 cents a gallon more and they have to pump it!! Same goes with New York!

I had been told by some people from out that way that Jersey had cancelled full serve...

In some parts of Oregon, I am sure the motivation was to supply jobs to places that have none...

As my brother who lives in Atlanta says... Oregon is the Appalachia of the West Coast....

Lets see. one truck at $30,000, say 100,000 miles works out to $0.30 per mile (higher mileage but you have to add back for maintenance). Gas at $3.00 per gallon, 15 miles to the gallon, it is still $0.20 per mile.
Most of the money still goes to the cost of the truck.

22 to 24 mpg....

475,000 miles.....

Nah, the gas at $3.00 a gallon is most of the money expense to me!

Hell no.

Corax, make that a Toyota Tacoma, $15,000 over 300,000 miles, or a nickel a mile. Trade in value covers repairs.

Fuel, 25 mpg at $2.50 works out to a neat dime. Total of 15 cents a mile to your 50...... There's a reason us hunting bums run rice burners....

Of course, copper wire was invented when two Dutchmen found a penny Dutch.

It won't affect this year, but we are limiting the scope of next years varmit shoot. One guy on the trip is going to have a new kid, and the other is in seminary. Neither have much extra disposable income.

I'll be re prioritizing my hunting excursions.

Yes, the rising price of GAS will have a HUGE IMPACT on travel - it already has. AT Zion National Park, total visitors are down ~25% this year compared to last - gas prices are the most commonly cited reason amoung potential Park visitors. I predict DECREASED NON-RESIDENT APPLICANTS for hunting permits all over the WEST. For those who can afford it, maybe you'll finally get that Nevada deer or elk tag.

I dirve alot anyways.

I am thiniking of installing one of those conversions that make it possible to run your diesel truck on used vegetable oil.

Let's just say I'll put a lot more logistical planning and timing into my forays.

The higher price of fuel will effect those with less money far more. Since fuel is deemed a necessity for our lifestyle some will have to cut back on even fuel and others with more money can cut back on luxuries.

The cost of running most vehicles shows fuel at about a third of the total per mile.

I'll be using my quad more than ever this year and I'll probably stay in camp more. I usually do most of my muley hunting within 2 hours of home. I'll try and reduce the consecutive day trips from home by sleeping in the bush. 2 years ago I was real broke and did just that. I let my insurance run out and kept my truck in camp uninsured for three weeks. I put day insurance on it to get it home when I broke camp.

The other option was to go back to work. Not a chance I'm doing that in november!!

No,most of my hunting is within two to three hours. Most of the time a couple of us ride together,this helps on cost.Can hardly wait for opening day.

Seafire and Dutch - I'm still driving a 95 Pathfinder but looking at the new trucks. Still a couple of years away from a new one.

At 10 yrs old, I think my 88 4Runner only had about 275,000 to 300,000 miles on it at that time....

Of course 7-8 yrs later it only has another 175,000 on it now at 475,000.

You have a lot of life left in that Datsun!
