Sheridan Wyoming?
I'm going to be there for a couple of days this summer. The kids want to see mountains. So anything to do in the area, any good camping, or good hiking, nothing too strenuous for young kids?

Also how are the prairie dogs doing in NE Wyoming this year?

Great golf course there. I think you could find a place to wet a line for some trout also. Nice town that you will like.

A quick day trip. Go to Ranchester/Dayton

14 to 14A. Stop at Medicine Wheel, walk in, you will see mountains. Then drive on down to Lovell, turn at the Big Horn Canyon Visitors Center, highway 37 I think, drive up to Horseshoe bend, Big Horn Canyon National Park, feral horses, wild sheep, drive to the look outs over looking the lake. Nice views, huge canyon with a lake 1000' below. My stomping grounds for close to 40 years.

Lived there several years ago and really enjoyed it. Hope my information is not out-of-date.

1). King Ropes (a store in downtown Sheridan).

2). Visit the town of Story that is about 15 miles south of Sheridan. Go to the Fish Hatchery. While in that area visit Ft. Phil Kearny and the Fetterman Massacre site.

3). Custer Battlefield is about an hour north of Sheridan.

4). Buffalo is about 30 miles south. Visit the Johnson County Museum. Walk Main Street.

If you can drive up the red grade do a round trip thru burgess junction. Also the tongue river canyon is nice.

I shot PDs in that area for a couple of trips one just has to find a place to shoot them.

For a some great hiking one might want to go down to Buffalo across on 16 to Meadow brook hike up the trail to bomber mountain. One can do a great in and out and see some nice mountain scenery. I seen moose every time I been up there.

Elk and Bison hunting is best right in the middle of town Smiler

Do not miss the opportunity to throw one back at the Mint. I played darts there once with Kenny Rogers and recovered from many a hangover created there

Schell Creek Canyon Road is a good drive - very scenic

Thanks for the help, we had a good trip. We only camped out in the mountains one night. My daughter was getting sick and we thought it could be the altitude, turned out it was motion sickness from off-roading and winding mountain roads.

Did the medicine wheel and tongue river canyon. Also hiked around Sibly Lake where the kids saw their first moose.
