150 grain Partition Gold in 270
What kind of penetration can I expect out of this bullet on Elk? Compared to my standard loads with the 150 Hornady and Speer bullets, interlok and hotcor respectivly. This rifle shoots the Partition Golds very well on top of a max load of H4831 (58.0 grains) and I expect I am getting around 2900 fps with it out of my 24 inch barrel.

Enough to kill on any sensible shot and maybe on an unsensible shot if needed. Should be a great load.

I have used the ordinary 150 NP in several .270s for many years with great satisfaction and your load as well as a hot load of RE-22 have been my choices. I currently use the NPG in two of my favourite rifles, my Dakota 76-.338 Win. and my Brno 21H "roundbolt", re-chambered to .280 Rem. I find these rilfes with hot loads using this bullet to be extremely accurate and consider this my favourite bullet, overall.

That 150 grain Partition Gold is one tough bullet. My friend used factory ammo loaded with that bullet in his 270 Winchester on an elk hunt last fall. He had a cow tag and when he got the chance he shot the biggest cow he could find in a herd. The bullet went clear through the elk and killed another one standing behind it.

Fortunately, they had another cow tag so nothing went to waste. He recovered the bullet from the second elk and it looks like a Nosler advertisement, great weight retention.

Sambar 9.3
Dunno about Elk, but the Win factory load with the 150gr partion gold in 270 Win, does just fine on Sambar, which are a fairly big critter. Almost as big as Wapiti (Elk), but a lot tougher.
You should be O.K, with careful shot placement.

I probably won't take any shot that I wouldn't have taken with the other two bullits out of habit. "BUT" in the timber I might be a bit qui8cker to shoot knowing the extra penetration is there. I hate rear end shots but would this bullet break the pelvis and then some?
