I've been considering a Bison meat shoot for next year... Notice I didn't say "hunt" I realize its a ""shoot"

The question is where.. a wide range of prices, but most prices do not offer or include everything... such as caping, or cut and wrap. These two place seem up front about everything and include prices for everything, so I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience with either.

I don't know if I would be of any help, but here is what we offer. Two Full days of hunting with your guides, lodging and meals included. 600 head approximately on a large low fence ranch in the very Northwest corner of South Dakota. Strictly spot and stalk hunting and you get the whole animal. We can either take it to the processor for you to have done on your cost or we can cut the meat off at the ranch for you to take home in coolers to your own processor. If you want the hide and head to be mounted we take it to the taxidermist. All included in the price. $3500 plus tax

Iffn it was me, I'd go for the South Dakota experience. To whack a 'buff on a frosty morning in it's traditional habitat would add to the experience.

Check with the Triple U Ranch, near Pierre, S.D. I took my Buffalo there. I don't have current phone # but the Pierre Chamber of Commerce will have it. Dances with Wolves was filmed there. The old fort is still standing, interesting.
The Vermejo Park Ranch near Raton, NM also offers bison hunts.

Maybe with a Bow?

Twin Pines Ranch in WY. My family has taken 4 or 5 for meat off that place.

Another vote for the Routier family - they will take good care of you.

"Take," in a hunting context, describes an entire process of which killing is only one part. "Take" describes everything from pulling the trigger to putting the meat on the table.

One way to put it is that on a trip to Wyoming I killed a bunch of prairie dogs and took a nice antelope. The prairie dogs stayed where they dropped and the antelope ended up on my dinner table. Does that make sense?

Take is not really a sanitized euphemism like "harvest," which makes me want to .

I've hunted cow elk many times at Vermejo Park and there's lots of bison there. You might want to talk to Tim Barraclaugh @ 575-445-9330. The only thing is that VPR is not really on the bison's historical range, if that matters.

Shooting a bison with a Sharps is a great experience for anyone interested in Old West history.

Randy what is the cost of processing.

It just depends on the weight and what you have done with it. I always recommend the client contact the processors I use and talk to them direct to answer whatever questions they have. You can call Dick at the butcher shop at 605 642 2230 for any questions and a quote. He is kind of hard of hearing so speak loudly.
