Docter Optics was an old company that made very high grade specialised lenses including aspheric lenses. If I remember right, they also made telescopes and binoculars with aspheric lenses. Their products were of very high quality.

Have they been bought by Zeiss now?

DR Optic was the east German portion Zeis, formerly Zeiss-Jena. I hadn't heard that they were one company again, thanks for the info. - Dan

Dan,

My father's company did a lot of business in Eastern Europe during the Cold War days and the East German counterpart of Zeiss was Carl Zeiss Jena, Jena being in Eastern Europe. Docter Optic (maybe the word Optic ended in a "k" back then but I'm not sure) was an independent company. Carl Zeiss manufactured a lot of optical diagnostic equipment including ophthalmoscopes, cincidence refractometers etc while Docter Optic made telescopes, binoculars, aspheric lenses, specialised mirrors etc. I just checked their website www.docteroptics.com and it still seems an independent company.

Whatever it's status, the company is a world leader in specialty optics and though the website says nothing about riflescopes, I hope they have not discontinued them. They were magnificent and the site speaks of a US operation in Mesa, Arizona. If someone has a link to their US operations, I'd be grateful for them.

Thanks and good hunting!

I purchased a 3-12x56 Doctor Optik while stationed in Germany 3 years ago. It was cheaper than either of the Ziess scopes I bought but I feel the quality was very similar. I bought this scope to use for night hunting while there. Excellent light gathering ability. Back here in the states I installed it on my AR-15.

Have a 3x9 Doctor on my 9.3 x62 CZ. , its excellent. Brighter than my Leupolds, but a little heavy. The focus and adjustments are perfect. Used it on elk.
