Austin HunterA new hunter's first hunt! Aoudad!
A member on our lease in the Texas Hill Country brought two of his buddies out from California this weekend (the member lives there as well). It was the first time hunting for his two guests.
Here is the 270.5 lb 30"/29" free range aoudad his guest took. Pretty hard to beat for a first hunt/animal. What a toad!

LHeym500Congratulations to the hunter and thank you and your body for expanding hunting. A Californian with a AR and a wonderful Aouad. I did not realize they got that big.
I ask only out of curiosity, do they eat well?

Big Wonderful WyomingLike waterbuck they require a lot of work to get them to eat well.
A good option is of course smoked sausage made with jalapenos and cheddar.
Or a hamburger made with beef fat.

SevensCan't help but notice he invested in some Kuiu pants for the hunt as well.
Congrats to him on a nice ram!

I'm not real familiar with them, though I understand the bigger and older they are the worse they get. I can say that
the young ram I shot here in NM a few months ago provided meat with relatively mild flavor. In fact it was nearly devoid of taste like I have come to expect from game; very flat, so not bad in the flavor department. Unfortunately, it was nearly as tough as my boot sole. Even the backstrap required excessive chewing. I see jerky, stew, or fajitas for the remaining sheep meat in my freezer.

He's a SWAT cop, so maybe that's the pass. Don't know.
