Hi, I am looking for advice for gear for a Sheep/Caribou/Moose hunt in the Northwest Territory in September of this year. I need advice on things like a Pack (internal frame), sleeping bag(0- -10f) wool pants,Parka and or clothing system, boots, for you guys that have been. Any tips concerning gear amounts, type, packing, etc,... is greatly appreciated. I am trying to make that transition from Whitetail stand hunter, to the mountains,.... yeah I been told, get in shape, haha. Thanks.

The first thing I would say is follow your outfitters gear list. He has been there and done that many times.

Think layers and high tech fabrics that wick moisture. Sweat is your worst enemy. In Sept. you may find the midday temps quite mild and you will want to strip off some clothing.

Maybe if I wuz huntin Squill thar, I cud git som hep wit dis. Dat iz y eye cum to dis form ta git som hep. Maybee I start squill huntin insted.

Rusty, For backpack hunts I like the Badlands packs (Kifaru are also excellent but out of my price range) and I think Wiggys is making the best sleeping bags made. You can get a bag rated for zero degrees for right at 4 pounds and it will retain its warmth when wet.

Don't get too far ahead of yourself. You could easily be hunting in your shirtsleeves. Depends on how high up you are.
