$5-$10 bucks needed-U.S hunters only!
Okay, here's the deal. Last week an 89-year old geezer up in Minnesota shot a horse with a 12-year old girl on top! This topic was adequately covered in the thread "Age Not=Wisdom". Most of the A-R posters want a pound of the old geezers flesh. It doesn't matter if he was a first wave veteran of Tarawa or otherwise a previous good guy who now talks to potted plants.

A pro-hunting newspaper reporter for a major Twin City paper named Dennis Anderson picked up on the story and organized a fund raiser amongst Minnesota deer hunters to buy this girl a new horse and to pay for the vet bills for her injured horse.

I say that we A-R (U.S.A.) posters should send in $5, $10, or whatever to this account. Send a message to this little girl and the anti's that we are not all bad people.

Here's the address:

MDHA Horse Account
Minnesota Deer Hunter's Association
460 Peterson Rd
Grand Rapids, MN 55744

Include a note that says it's from the crew at www.accuratereloading.com

The goal here is within a week or two to come up with enough money to pay for the vet bills and to buy this girl a cool replacement horse. Put your money where your mouth is. Show them we can do it. It's an American thing.

Matt, I guess that if I can afford to go to Africa, I can afford $5 bucks. Thanks for the address.

We are off to a good start!

Jon Amos posted the link to the newspaper article Anderson wrote back on the other thread that discussed the incident. I'm going to try to list it here too.

I'm already in. I hesitate to say I live only 100 miles from there.

If you mean't to type "blind",yes. If you mean't to type "stupid", yes.If you mean't to type...I'll stop there.I just hope that when/if I get too old, blind,or senile to hunt(or drive) safely, somebody refuses to issue me a licence.

I don't want to make ANY excuses for anyone, but is this guy senile, blind or what? I can only hope that if I make it to 89 I will have the mental resources to know when to put up the guns for good. It is a sad situation all the way around, thats all.

To top it off, on Sunday an off-duty State Trooper and his wife were driving on a state highway. They were about 60 miles east of where this incident occured and a stray bullet went through the window and struck the trooper in the neck. It narrowly missed his windpipe and artery and lodged in his neck. He made it to the hospital and will be alright. They are searching for the responsible individual, and are talking to a group of hunters that were in the area hunting. I'll post any developments if anyone is interested.

What is amazing is that there aren't more problems. Michigan has 700,000 deer hunters, a large percentage of them out on "opening weekend". They take over 300,000 deer during a couple weeks of various hunting seasons. That means at least 1/2 million (firarm) shots taken. If you remove the heart attacks, those who fall from tree blinds, and aphxiations (sp?), there are only a handful of those actually hit by errant bullets.

I think the hunter education requirements of the past 35 years have helped considerably. Is there room for improvement? Absolutely. But I know we have more people killed in this state engaging in skateboarding and bicycling then we do in hunting.

I sent a check today. Couldn't decide between $5 and $10, so I made it for $7.

Update: One of our Minnesota posters has given us this link to a Nov 20 article

old guy charged-money coming in

And for a change, newspaper coverage doesn't have an "anti" spin. I predict a lot more money is on it's way in. Vet bills will get paid and the girl will get a new horse. Still isn't too late to send in a couple bucks.
