Re: 270 on Michigan bear
Of course this can happen with any cartridge. You have what is known as a statistically insignificant sample. I have taken quite a few black bears, hog, not to mention caribou and 2 moose with the 270 and have yet to have a problem. I like what I have seen in terms of penetration, damage, and time to death with the 270. just my two cents

I was hunting in Manitoba in the 80's, and I took a big blackie with my 375 H&H. The same evening another guy shot his with a 270 5 times and it ran away. They were going to go after it the next day, since it had gone a couple hundred yards. I'm sure it was recovered, but I left the next morning before they started tracking.

You think maybe the problem was with the guy holding the gun.5 SHOTS.A black bear is not a hard animal to knock down.A .270 is more than enough gun.

David: He said he knocked it down with the first 3 shots. I think he must have shot it poorly with the first shot and got its adrenalin going. He was using a Rem 7400 and emptied it into the bear at ranges less than 50 yds.
