Last minute Alaska trip....need suggestions!!
Not a hunting trip....but want to possibly do some fishing if possible. My girlfriend and I are taking a "spur of the moment" trip to Alaska in a couple weeks and I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you guys might have on where to stay, what to do, etc...

Neither of us have ever been to Alaska, and we are looking to stay within 2-3 hours of Anchorage. Basically we are just looking to relax for a week, do some photography (both landscape and animals), and possibly do some fishing for a day if it is not too far out of the way or expensive.

We would prefer to stay at a comfortable cabin away from the city, but not looking to break the bank. We'd like to keep the trip under $2,000-$3,000 total (without flights).

Any suggestions?

I've got a recommendation for a fishing guide in Soldotna, about a 3 hour drive away. My dad and I are headed up there in a couple weeks for a few days of fishing ourselves.

Not exactly within your 2-3 hours, more like 4-5 but consider driving up to Denali and taking the bus back in as far as Eielson visitor center and doing some hiking. The photo opportunities are amazing and just to be there is incredible. You are at the end of the season so you should be able to find lodging at some of the places that rent cabins for a reasonable amount. Just another option.

The Kenia may be another good option.

Enjoy your trip. I loved it up there when I went.

Go to Homer as the scenery is unreal. Contact Brian Noeller at Midnight Sun Charters to see if he has any openings for halibut fishing. He probably will not at such short notice, but you never know. The wildlife and landscape from a fishing outing is tremendous.
