Spring Break hunt: 15-17 April - Suggestions?
I won't do Africa again until 2015, but I "need" to get out and do something this year. Summer's shot and as a high school teacher Spring and Fall are pretty busy. Spring Break is 14-18 April, so I'm looking at a 15-17 April hunt somewhere in the US. Any suggestions?

P.S.
One of my cadets (I teach AFJROTC) brought me some deer meat from his TX Axis Deer hunt and is was the best deer meat I've ever eaten. Can you hunt 'em in April?

Yes, you can hunt Axis in Texas year around. Some of the bucks will be in velvet at any given time of the year, and some will have hardened horns.

Blackbuck antelope are also huntable in the spring.

Feral hogs are 24/7/365 -- have at 'em.

Exotic game ranches offer various other antelope species, but they can be pricier than most are willing to pay for a high-fenced hunt.

Turkeys will be on the menu at that point in April.

Personally, I'd rather do a good prairie dog hunt that time of year, but the weather can be a problem in the upper plains where they're found since April can bring both thunderstorms and blizzards to that part of the country.

I'm a college professor and have spent many Spring Breaks in FL or TX, mostly on " meat" hunts , eg- hogs, gators under 9 feet, eland/nilgai/oryx cows...great steaks & great fun. For the $ I've found fallow/blackbuck/ axis does to be pretty small. Another fun hunt is wild pigs in California, they are big game there so license/ hunting fees run higher. Good hunting!

I'd 2nd Stonecreeks comments. Axis in Texas in April - bluebonnets are still in bloom (if we have some rain) and the Axis will be a nice mix of hard-horned as well as velvet bucks. Prices run from around $500-1750 up to $4500 or more for the really big boys.
Lots of different ranches offer hunts. I've hunted Rain Creek Ranch between Menard and Brady several times. Family-run operation, first class accommodations and great food!
