Bob NisbetMountain Lion Sighting In East Texas. I was mistaken.
In March I set my trail camera so that I could monitor game that was going through one particular area. To my surprise, the first picture was of a mountain lion.
I had never heard any of the locals comment about there being any big cats in the area.
I now believe that this particular mountain lion may be the reason for a dwindled deer population.
Has anyone else been seeing mountain lions in the Cass/Marion County Texas area.

p dog shooterI believe it is legal to shoot them at any time in TX. Always wanted to see one when I was pig hunting.

Bob NisbetI did a better analysis of my pictures and one picture seems to show a bobbed tail, so I am now inclined to believe that what I have is not a mountail lion.
I think my first impressions were skewed by misreading the distance to the cat and not seeing the short tail.

wasbeemanThey can be very elusive. A family of them lived for years on President's Island which is a grain shipping depot on the Mississippi River right in sight of Memphis. The part of the island that wasn't developed as a shipping depot was as wild as it had ever been. The cougars were living large on the deer, rabbits, and pigeons that were drawn to the grain spillage.
Only after years of refuting the sightings, did the game people admit they were there.
