Flush Mount Sling Swivels
I am looking at various MFG's flush mount sling swivel studs. The idea of a swivel stud flush mounted to the stock is very appealing to me. I would like your comments on which brands are best. So far I have found some made by Uncle Mikes, Millet and Pachmyer. My main concern is I want a quick detachable sling but I don't want a possibility of accidental detaching while I an carrying the rifle.

David:

I have used both the Pachmayer and Uncle Mike swivel. A couple of observations: the Uncle Mike's did not have quite enough clearance between the button which you depress to release the stud and the actual leather as it is looped through the sling. You had to really force your thumb in their and sort of cock the sling forward to depress the button enouch to get the sling out. This was years ago. They may have reengineered them.

HK used to put the Pachmayer QD swivel on their sporting rifles (630, 770, 300, etc.) I bought a pair and installed them on a rifle I built. I'm not much of a craftsman but I had a hard time getting them real straight in the hole. The thread is a large pitch wood-type thread (as on a wood screw) and I just could not get them as straight as I wanted. I do believe Pachmayer sells an installation tool. They don't give it away though.

My .02 worth.
