analog_peninsulaWhat is the point of this post? Without knowing the exact bullet placement and without viewing images of the recovered bullets, it's impossible to reach any meaningful conclusion.
There are plenty of guys here in Texas that are 200 for 200 on deer with a .22/250. That doesn't mean that everyone should use a .22/250.

dwheelsOk, I have two in the last two years. a 3 point mule deer with a 338 win mag, traveled 2 yards. The second was a cow elk shot yesterday with a .270 traveled zero yards.

oupaKnowledge of anatomy to target vulnerable placement, Accurate shot placement, and finally a suitable rifle/bullet for the game, situation and conditions. That is what makes success. I tire quickly of people stating unequivically that this or that bullet or caliber is not "suitable" under any circumstances. Keep in mind the world record whitetail for many, many years was shot with a 25/20 I beleive! Could have just as esily been a .22LR. We've heard too many times about WDM Bell shooting elephants with a 7X57. Sure there are calibers I'd never use for one purpose or another but I'm just intolerant of "caliber bigotry." To each his own, if it's legal and you're OK with it, it's none of my business.
OK I've said my piece, let fly boys!

cal30 1906Of the 30 or so head of game I have taken, I have only had 1 or 2 travel over 100 yards.
Mostly with the 270 win and the 7 mag 3006 and the 338 Win.
