Capt. PurvisKeep up with Action. One of the largest payout in Outdoors
https://www.thebigrock.com/Sport Fishers from all over the world are pulling up to the docks here in NC. Over $2,000,000.00 in prizes for this six day tournament. One of the largest tournaments in the world. Hope to catch the biggest Blue Marlin!
Good luck if you or any of your buddies are in it. Let's hope there isn't the drama of the 2016 White Marlin open or the 2010 Big Rock where there was unfortunately rules violations caught by the polygraph tests. Big money will tempt some, if not many, to seek an advantage.
Keep us posted.

Outdoor WriterHow does B&C score a blue marlin? Do they just measure the length of the bill or do they also include circumference measurements at certain intervals along the length?

Capt. PurvisThis is a kill tournament for the big money and there is also a release division. A Blue Marlin has to be at least 400 pounds to kill. If you stick him and he does not bring 400 pounds you have points deducted. If Marlin is not big enough to kill you get 400 points for a release. White Marlin, Spearfish, Hatchette Marlin and Sailfish get 125 points. Biggest Fish wins over a Million dollars.

Outdoor WriterI guess my attempt at humor/sacasm was a bit too obtuse.

It varies OB, depending at what level you enter. And then buy yourself or another boat in the Calcutta for the really big money....no limit there.

Capt. PurvisAround 20K to get in all official categories. Several other calcuttas on the side. Big event that last throughout the week. Trump Jr is fishing as well as Eva and Jim. Saw several other celebrities at the dinner last night. You get to fish four out of five days. Most boats are taking a lay day today due to the weather. Forecast to blow a gale for the next two days.

Capt. PurvisNothing like backing your rig into the slip to weigh a big fish during this tournament. There are thousands of people and news crews on the docks watching the weigh ins. It is one of the only events I know of in the outdoor industry that ESPN covers.

Capt. PurvisWe put together a few make up charters every year for this and other tournaments. A make up is a for a person that does not have the people to make up his own charter and wants to save on the cost. You fish with five other people and split entry fee and cost of charter. For entry level one on this tournament is around $3,4000. You and the five other anglers split 85% of the winnings. We draw numbers to see for the first fish.
We saw a nice blue yesterday but she did not eat. We did not get the teaser away quick enough. Very cloudy all day and thunderstorms which made visibility difficult. We are taking a lay day today then going to fish straight through starting tomorrow. Buddy of mine is leading tournament now with a 515 pounder. Today is the third day with 152 boats fishing and 32 laying. Fun to keep up with the action with the audio feed on the website. Below are other Captains and their boat names that several AR Members have fished with in the past. List up for them on the live feed.

Sandra D - Mike Merrit
Release - Rom Whitaker
Qualifer - Fin Gaddy
Hatteras Fever- Buddy Hooper

Capt. Purvis
Estimated this fish around 330. It was too small to kill so we released.

OLBIKERI would be happy just to be on a boat and watch the action first hand.

330 is still some points, so your on the Board.
probably killed a couple of hours though.
