Sheldon CharronKifaru Packs. Which one?
I'm looking for a hunting pack for a Caribou hunt coming up, and for hunts in general over the next several years.
My concern is, which one? I like the gunbearer system, but the longhunter looks too big for most of my needs, and the Spikecamp looks a little small.
On the Caribou hunt, we will be hiking out from our tent camp during the day and going back at night. We are allowed four caribou between my friend and I; however, we will carry a radio and the outfitter will come in with quads to retrieve the animals.
Most of my other hunts allow us to get in with some form of transportation to get animals out, but that could change, and I don't have a good sized pack for general camping/hiking either.
What I want right now is something warm enough to carry basic daypack gear, some extra dry clothes, camera, Swaro compact spotter, rangefinder, small tripod, etc.
I see Kifaru sells the gunbearer system for use on other packs, but I'm not sure if it includes the top quickrelaease strap. If it does, perhaps I could use it with another pack...
Advice would be appreciated. I am leaving on the 18th of September so i need something now.

x-manPhone Kifaru!
Those guys are very helpful. You will find them very informed and unlike most other backpackers they hunt!
I have my pack and tepee picked out, but a recent financial disaster has slowed my spending (a little).
Good luck!

John FrazerI have a Spike Camp and it's good but not huge -- the gear you list would probably fit fine but you might have to lash your rain gear on the outside using the Cargo Chair.
The Gun Bearer will work on any of their packs, I believe.

Outdoor WriterSheldon,
The LongHunter is not as big as it appears to be and quite comfortable. I use one for Coues deer hunting to carry my tripod, binocs and the same sort of gear you want it for. I also use the optional hydration system; it's super. Plus, I had them make a special case to fit my tripod so I can strap it on OUTSIDE on the back. Much quicker and easier access without having to disturb your other gear. -TONY

<Robin>I have the KIFARU long hunter and love it. if you are day hiking to your hunting site from camp you can remove the bag from the frame and use the frame and cargo shelf as a hauler. It works great for elk.

Sheldon CharronHey guys.
I bought the Siwash (one step down from the Longhunter. I also bought the cargo chair, and the bladder. They promised I'd have it for my hunt and even will embroider it with my company website address and slogan. Very, very cool. Buy once, buy right. Thanks for all the help!

Frank NowakowskiI need a pack to haul a large spotting scope as well as a 5 pound tripod.
Any thoughts? Does the gun carry system work well??
